Cleaned the bugger, spent an eternity getting my knuckles scraped and banged removing lube gunge off the chain. I tried a new chain lube recently and got fly-off all over the place, what a bloody mess. It was all over the wheel, under the seat, the Termi's and unbeknownst to me also up the back of the left leg of my leathers (and now on our white bedspread after I sat on it to take of my leathers
Mrs was not happy)
It was so shiny and sparkly that I didn't want to ride it and get it dirty all over again. Well that and I had to shovel mushroom compost on Sunday to get out of the doghouse.

Went for a ride of Mt Tamborine this morning, testing the new 44th sprocket. Don't think it really suits the close ratio box on the 900ie much, its great at low speeds but its too buzzy from 100km/h up. At an indicated 115 or so the engines revving at 5000rpm. Mind you she pulls harder than ever which I like
Next sprocket I might go back to the 41th.

If you have a 15t on the front, you could always go for a 14t, with the 41t rear. That's supposed to be a great combo.
My 14t/40t combo is great, so I'd love the 41t next time. The current combo sits on 4,000 revs at 100kmph.

Hey GK I had 15/41 before and I reckon it was perfect but I wanted to see what all the fuss was putting a larger rear on. Glad I did as I'm enjoying the extra punch down low even if it does expose the lack of top end these engines have but how often do you sit at rpms over 7000 anyway. Most of the riding I do is commute so it wont matter much, I am doing a longer ride tomorrow which will give me a chance to evaluate the setup a bit better. I'll post up some pics when I get home. Of the ride that is.

found that some Suzukis run a carb heater (Early SV650's and a couple of other models) so I took a float bowl off the 750 to the fella and he is going to turn up a couple of adapters to go in where the useless oil heater fittings go and fitting the heater elements, and then wiring in the thermo switch and voila the fuel will be warm when its needed!!
Not when the oil is warm and, so is the motor and it aint needed any more! Gotta love the Irish Italian who designed that piece of brilliance!
With parts and labour it will be a bit less than $100 all up!

Went for a 500km ride, left home at 6.30am and pulled up exactly 8 hours later. Trip included Mt Tamborine - Canungra - Beaudesert - Woodenbong - Kyogle - Murwillumbah - Advancetown - Beechmont - Canungra - and back home.
The section from Beaudesert to Woodenbong via the excellent Mt Lindsay hwy was totally devoid of other vehicles, I only over took one car the whole time!
After a long ride the shorter gearing is here to stay. Although it revs a bit harder it didn't really become an issue for me. I found 2 sweet spots to sit on, one around 95kph and the other at 110kph. In the bends I found I could leave the bike in 4th gear mostly except the tighter turns when a shift back to 3rd was best.
After 485km the monster had burnt 26L of premium. Works out at 5.4 litres per hundred.

Went to my bro's place for a chat and to install the K&N crankcase breather vent filter kit.
Fitted a treat and I noticed the idle speed up a hundred or so revs! Nice!

Interesting you say that. I have done ega tests which showed a richer a/f ratio at idle with the breather hose going into the airbox. Having an uncontaminated intake charge could have cleaned up the idle.
I did a write up about it in the tech section.

As I ride the "Old Girl" regularly, no matter the weather! Has anyone who runs the K&N crankcase breather had issues with water ingestion??

I run the K & N breather
during this time of year I tend to only ingest single malt , Agavera Tequila and Coopers Vintage
I try to stay away from water altogether

Chucked this on
been looking for one of these for years
thanks Rob for the link
Huge improvement , no longer are the family jewels smashed into the tank ,entering corners its way easier to get
off the bike and twist your hips and the cockpit it much larger , looking forward to the next long ride now.
And a bonus for Mrs Dogs as she has inherited the seat from the S2R which is way more cumfy than the dished out low seat on the 695
win win
