S2R1000 to S2R800 Front Brake Swap?
«
on:
January 17, 2012, 12:27:24 PM »
My question is very simple, I have a 2005 S2R800 and I like to know if I can put the discs and calipers from a 2007 S2R1000 without modifications (direct swap).
I think this change should greatly improve the quality and braking power of my bike... correct?
Thanks in advance

Yes, but you will need custom brake lines at ~ $ 130.
Recommended master cylinder size for those calipers is 16 mm - compared to 15 mm on an 800.
Some just keep the 800 master - it's ok, but a little 'softer' than a 16 mm.
New 16 mm is about $ 100

Did you buy the rotors from the 1000 also?
The rotors are different. The 800 has 300mm dia w/ no offset. The 1000 uses 320mm w/ 10mm offset. The 320 rotor were used on just about every ducati from at least 2000 (and probably a good bit further back) until the appearance of the 300mm rotors in 2005. At that point the 'bigger' monsters still used them

I did this on my 695. I got a new 16mm master, new lines, 4 pot goldline calipers and 320mm rotors. Everything just bolted on perfectly. The hardest part was getting the old rotors off - they'd used red loctite. I found a hot air blower (made for heatshrink) and an impact wrench was needed.
The new brakes are incredible. Wonderful feel, amazingly powerful, and really progressive. Mine was a goldline kit, which had coffin master (matches my clutch). I think S*R 1000 masters have separate reservoirs, so you might want to take the clutch master as well, if only to keep your bike from looking lopsided.

Is the 696 coffin master a 15 or 16. I have done everything but the master upgrade & have access to a free 696 master but have been 'told' it won't make a difference
