Driving in the snow (video)

Is driving in the snow really this bad?? I think the guy taping this is kind of an ass. He or somebody could have just kind of went up the hill and warned people or mad some kind of home made sign and placed it up there instead of just laughing and telling people to watch out, pretending like he cares...typical now days.

This has been a fairly mild winter for us but we are still getting a few inches of snow every week. Many of these people have been driving in the snow for years but you still people slipping and sliding all over the road. One thing I have noticed is that very few cars I see parked out and about have proper tires for the conditions. The vast majority have all season tires, even the best of which are mediocre on snow and terrible on ice. Also, it's alarming how many have tires that are nearly bald. A good set of snow/ice tires is much cheaper than an accident.

Some people get over confident with their All/4 wheeled drive vehicles. It was easier back in the days to slap on the chains, but that pretty much destroyed the roads. I would think that common sense would go a long way in this situation.

This is about a mile from my house. I tell you what, I have lived in mountain states my whole life and those storms were odd. There was intense rain and then the snow stuck immediately. It was like an ice rink, so I can see why cars were spinning (although I wasn't, at least not by accident
). We have not had much snow here this year, so I don't think people respect it yet. Maybe now they will.

I've found the people always forget how to drive in the snow.
We've had nothing here all year and then last week dumped two feet. everyone drove like morons
for the first couple days and it looked just like that, then they figure it out again.
Of course then there are the idiots that drive 25mph on the bare highway just because they see snow
out in the fields.

This is about an hour from me. As mentioned before, it rained, then slushed/snowed and then froze hard. Also, this video doesn't show it very well, but this road is SUPER steep. BTW, the local news interviewed the guy who took the video and he said there were people at the top of the street trying to stop people.
That being said, most people suck at driving in the snow...especially the first snow of the year (which this was for us). Stay safe out there.

I live in north Texas so I don't know shit about driving in snow/ice. But it looks to me that there is a layer of ice under that snow. I don't have a lot of experience in that kind of weather but I damn sure have driven some in both snow and ice and ice is what we get more of than snow. I know the snow will melt with lots of traffic, freeze overnight into ice, then all hell breaks loose at the next morning's rush hour with Texans like me not knowing what they are doing.
That video looked a little too slippery for the amount of snow on the road.
OK, back to snow/ice driving expert comments!

What did you want the guy who was videotaping to do? Go to the top of the hill and tell people that it's snowing? Tell them that they are headed down hill? Seems pretty obvious to me. Not to mention that this is Utah, and people who live in Utah should be well aware of what driving in snow is like. Like Ron White says... "You can't fix stupid."

This.
I figure you sorta get a free pass for the first snow of the year (not that you get to play bumper cars or anything), but after that you should know.
