or see how much it would be to buy it back from the insurance company. if you got full value on it and can get those bit repaired cheap you'll actually make out with a decent amt of cash. though expect your resale value to plummet.

and that's not a structural problem.
you could fix it, but it would require pretty much removing the frame and have it welded and repainted.

Insurance companies don't want them, so they usually go by blue book minus some amount (50%?)
the problem is that your bike has ZERO miles.

A buddy of mine totaled an '08 CBR1000RR and the insurance company wouldn't give him the option to buy it back. They stated that since he didn't own it outright, the lein holder actually owned it and that it was the bank's call fi they wanted it or not. This was the first time I'd heard of such a thing because the banks want the money, they don't want a totaled motorcycle. The reality of it is that the insurance company paid off the loan, so they should have received the title.
We suspected the claims adjuster had a buddy that wanted the it for a trackbike.

That's very weird and nonsense. The bank accepts a settlement from insurance, and 9/10 they have their own insurance rider which covers the full amount of the loan.

Anyway to make a long story short, someone messed with the lock which caused a bent frame and a broken steering head and lock, as you can note on the pictures attached below.
First, I noticed that the steering won't lock on the left position and that the ignition module had shifted downward to the left.
Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
This might be me, but from the photos you posted it looks like the only structural damage was to the steering lock mount points on the frame and the top triple. Both things which can be fixed relatively easily and for not to much $$$....
Actually bending the frame/steering head would require hitting a curb fast enough to crack the front wheel and damage the forks. I doubt that whoever tried to steal your bike had enough strength to manage that.
Best of luck!

it's not so much the area of the damage as much of the repair of that damage. that would require most of the bike coming apart and a repaint

Is there that much of a difference between the new monsters (696, 796, etc) and the old ones?
I would take off tank, airbox and carbs; whack the steering lock mount back into place with a mallet, a little welding and hit it with a little red spray. In my opinion the location is not that visible to require a professional repaint.
Not to mention totalling a new bike for something so small!

in threads I have read to do simple things like installing a battery tender lead, you apparently have a lot of disassembly on the new generaton bikes....
