2000 Monster 750, Too old?

The last bike i was looking at didn't work out.. so now I'm looking at this one.. This is my last choice, so if this doesn't work out.. I'll have to get something different..

Judging by the pictures...The bike is in amazing condition. The seller says it has been fully serviced, and needs nothing. Clean title in hand, never dropped... Good tires... 10,800 miles...$1000 exhaust.

I spoke with the seller the day he posted it up on craigslist which was like 2-4 weeks ago he said he wouldn't take anything under 4000 (he has it posted up CL for 4900, big jump lol). I'm going to speak with him again later today.

He has done some of the service himself, some at Ducati Miami and some through a private mechanic... What should i ask him about other then the timming belts and valves?

Is it correct that this model has no fuel injection?

My 1st Monster was a '99 750.  It was a great bike and a great intro to the world of Monsters
Pictures don't always tell the truth but the bike looks really clean.  $4000 might be a little high but I guess that depends more on how bad you want it.
Might ask about a pic of the other side of the bike too.

otherwise, it does look good, and probably has the service history to back it up, but it's still a 12 year old bike, and even at 4 it seems a little steep.

shoot, two years ago, my bike ('05 620, 8k miles) sold for 4500, which was right at blue book at the time

Hopefully i have a good experience with my 1st monster too . I'm just a little worried about having a bike that's 12 years old.

I was thinking $4000 was a bit high too.... I'm going to call him tonight when he gets out of work to see what he can do on the price and hopefully i can see the bike this weekend.

What do you all think is a fair price to ask?

if it's as cherry as it looks in the pics? maybe 3000. those mirrors and pipes look to be the only mods on it

I told him i saw it for 2600 on kbb but he was saying that kbb isnt too accurate on motorcycles that he had sold a bike way over kbb once the day he posted it.

I'll see what he says tonight.. i'll keep you posted

I bought my 2000  750 with 2600 miles on it, three years ago for $3800.  It was a pretty good deal at the time and I've never regretted it.

The bike is carburated and I would ask of the emulsion tubes have been replaced.  Also ask if there has been any issues with the voltage regulator.  I've went through three of them but haven't had any problems for the last 7000 miles or so.  

If you get it, I hope you are as happy with it as I am with mine!

depends on the bike, of course... if it's something collectable or in high demand, that's one thing. I've also noticed that with bikes, people seem to think they can recoup what they spent "invested" in upgrades

I still say 3. in cash.

I went with a friend to pick up his GF's 01 M750 Senna at the time about 4 years ago, on a similarly damaged and equipped Monster...it had 16K on it at the time....we drove away with it for $2600 cash...

never negotiate over the phone/email....arrange your time and so forh...put the CASH you are willing to offer in front of him and shut up, because the 1st person that speaks after that usually loses....they'll argue within themselves and go back and forth in heir own mind...but they'll be very up front about whether it is a deal or not.

Just bought a '99 M750 with 4k mi. for 3200.

Supreme condition too, only problem is the ignition switch is very fickle. Have to replace it.  Almost bone stock except for some tasteful carbon fiber, handle bars and a battery tender.

Also came with two helmets, two jackets, gloves, rear stand, and ramps. I'd like to think I got a sweet deal.

Last year, I bought a 97 m750 for $2k. It had been maintained by a Ducati dealer, had reasonable mileage, and only minor cosmetic blemishes.

Have you looked through the Monsters for Sale board here? If he doesn't come down in price I would check it. For slightly more than $4000 you might be looking at a bike that's 5 years younger.
