Inane ramblings to avoid thread jacking

Sounds like a good weekend Mo!  Can't wait to read the whole write-up. 

Well, took my wheels into Cycle Gear to have the new Pilot Powers mounted and balanced.  So... anybody know, is it normal to have to discombobulate the front brakes to get the wheel off?  Wheel interferes with the calipers, so they had to get unbolted from the forks.  Calipers wouldn't fit between the rim and the rotors until I removed the pads.  Didn't realise how much I'd have to disassemble to just get the wheel off... wondering if that's normal.

I'm definitely gonna be buying a frontstand, because with two bikes of my own, and being a DIYer, I'm gonna need it.    So, anyone have experience with the Pit Bull as compared to the Woodcraft front stands?  They're the same price...  Mo, I think you've mentioned working with both... what're the pros and cons of each?  On the Pit Bull side of things, I'd be buying the "new" front, which apparently fixed the goofy pivot issue.

Oh yeah, Mo, we're gonna need to talk about a Woodcraft order... I'm accumulating a list of stuff that's needed.    Looks like two sets of 8mm swingarm slider spools, an '07 CBR600RR left side engine case guard, and clipons for an '05 CBR600RR.  I may need frame sliders for the '05 as well, but it depends on whether I order the Armour Bodies set this year... they're including a set of Woodcraft frame sliders.

Dan, did you remove your caliper bolts (you mentioned removing them from the forks), this is all you should need to do to get the calipers free of the rotors and out of the location between the outer rim and rotor.  All my bikes have enough space between the rotor and rim to remove the caliper.

Let me know about the woodcraft stuff and I will get it ordered.

Yeah, I removed the two bolts holding the caliper to the fork leg... then I couldn't get it out between the rotor and the rim.  Tried working with it for a few minutes, but all that resulted in was scratching the rim.    Finally I gave up and pulled the pads, then it would rotate just enough to come out between the rim and rotor.

I'll try to firm up the list of Woodcraft stuff here shortly.  What's your opinion of their front stand as opposed to the new Pit Bull design?  Or is there another brand you prefer?

I prefer the construction of the pit bull brand over all others.  Tho the Woodcraft stand works, its kind of "flimsy" IMO.

Next time I see your SS I will take a look at the calipers.  Im guessing its a matter of twisting it this way, or that, to get it to clear the rotors without scratching your rims.  Elias may know too, he had one of those bikes (newer tho).

So yeah, in other inane ramblings... I test rode that beautiful ST4s at BMW of Western Oregon.  Schweet machine... but it really doesn't have enough legroom.  That, and the seat kind pushes one forward, so it's awkward to try scooting back in the saddle, and I gotta be able to move around on long rides.

Otherwise, it had Helibars, Throttlemeister barends, heated grips, Termi pipes, and I think it had the DP Comfort saddle.  Really clean bike, ultra-low miles.  Owned by an enthusiast with multiple motorcycles, which is why it had so few miles.  That 996 mill was awesome.  Merging onto the freeway in 2nd gear without even breathing hard... very nice, indeed.

If'n any of you are looking for an ST... go out there to the BMW shop in Tigard and look at that '04.  If it had more legroom, I'd be figuring out financing right now.  Instead, I'll be budgeting for and looking for an Uglystrada with the S package (Ohlins suspension, CF goodies, etc).
