ha ha yeah i should have just gotten the one from you chuck. Oh well, im getting the new battery tomarrow. I guess batteries dont last all that long, maybe 2-4 years max i know the one i gave you chuck was probably about that old, i had taken it down and they charged it up and said it was good, but i think i want to start with a new battery so i dont get stranded. I thought batteries lasted for like 10 years, i didnt know they had such a short life (2-4 years).

Lead-acid moto batteries, with excellent care, will last upwards of 5-6 years, tops.
The OEM Fiamm battery in my SS made it 6 years before it finally gave up the ghost. Just faded away, wouldn't hardly hold a charge anymore. That Fiamm was starting to leak, too, so it's good that I got it out of there. MotoCorsa was shocked it had lasted over 5 years, because apparently those batteries around the 2000-2001 timeframe were known to break open and spill acid everywhere.
In cars, I tend to have batteries for a couple years past their warranties, and except for one in my '86 GTI that had an internal short and died suddenly, the rest have just faded away about 2 years beyond their warranty period. I replaced 'em when their performance noticeably degraded, but before they left me stranded.
So yah... in my experience, 10 years is beyond the lifespan of the average lead-acid battery. I know nothing about the lifespan of spiral-cell/gel-cell batteries, though I'll find out one of these days, since I bought an Optima for the project GTI.

Not a moto battery, but I had the original lead acid battery in my Honda Civic for over 8 years. It always starts right up and never sits for any long period of time so the battery was never really put under any undue strain. Then one day out of the blue, no start. Rolled down the hill and popped the clutch to get it home.
Sorry about the spilled acid Salty. That totally sucks.

Went to a sushi bar in Burlingame CA, suburb of SF, on Monday. The parking lot.... Benz, Bentley, two ferraris, Lambo, and 3 porsches... not a single BMW... on and then my Ford Focus rental car... ha ha ha... Must be nice to be filthy rich.

Laura's boss has a Jag XJR-R, one of 5,000 made that year. We were at a restraunt where they valet park and the nice cars are up front for all to see. Half way through dinner is see his car is gone. Replaced by a Bently driven by Art Alexakis from Everclear.
I got a grin.

944? hmm.... Sixteen Candles car? You want to win over Molly Ringwald... she wasn't even the hot girl in any of her own movies. However, they are fun cars.... now I want a porsche.... hmm... wonder if the wifey would notice a car change.

I dislike 944s but the price was right. Worst case scenario would have been it was more of a fixer that represented I could have parted it for a profit.
Missed it by 5 minutes. Took too long thinking about it.

but poo was the more common reference on this board.
