snow
crappy drivers
bad tires
big make the beast with two backsin' trucks
when the weather is bad, i tap my brakes a lot and drive with a mile of clearance in front of me. people can be stupid.
that SUV veers to the left before losing control. looks like someone who is looking at a phone or not paying attention. the snow/ice/crap on the side provides just enough and of course, they jerk the wheel to the right and brake at the same time. very bad plan.

When some "I'm in a rush" bastard gets into my safety zone on the highway during bad weather, I slow down to get my zone back (unless we're going up a decent incline, in which case I just hope for the best). No way do I want to wind up like the SUV in OP's video.

eh
that could have been anything
it could have been as simple as application of the throttle with a rig that had a locker in the back and wasn't in 4wd
it could have been spilled coffee
it could have been a sneeze
the only thing it was for sure was every single stinking person on that road driving too fast in the shit

yep that's exactly what i meant. i also bought a second set of wheels for the wife's suv with snow tires mountes. shop charges me to swap them but it's $40 of cheap insurance.

notice the slow fade to the left into the median before they lose it? that's not coffee or a sneeze. both would be a jerk of the wheel. i see people doing the "slow fade"all the time. when you see them they are staring into a phone.

I've been driving big rigs in the snow for 20 years and I've seen this classic chain of events many times but, fortunately, without so tragic an ending. From what I've seen, those narrow strips of clear pavement present the most dangerous situation of all. Fortunately for us guys in the big trucks it's usually not a problem since our tires are so tall and we've got plenty of weight. We usually push right thru that stuff. Not so for cars since it starts the spin in this vid.
I feel sorry for the truck driver. I hope he was OK. Surely something came thru the windshield. This same thing happened to a friend of mine from the Portland, Or. region. My company started sending him for psychotherapy right away. It was a couple of years before I could talk to him without him bringing it up. It really screwed up his head.

I don't think the airbags and side curtains helped much in that one
speaking of SUVs
a lot of geniuses out there think that they are buying a vehicle
that transcends all weather conditions and the established laws of physics
and the TV commercials seem to reinforce that idea
