Taste of Racing - Changes, and Feedback
«

June 24, 2008, 09:55:21 AM »
Good morning,
with 3 race weekends of ToR behind us, we would like to thank everyone who has participated, and see how people feel about some changes we plan on making. We would also like some feedback from the riders of ToR for changes they would like to see.
Here is what we want to do starting with the next ToR event in August.
When a rider goes down during the event, red flags will come out, all riders will return to the hot pits and wait instruction. We will have at least two control riders go to the crash scene and assess the situation. If the rider is ok, the track clear of any debris, and the bike moved out of the impact zone, we will continue with ToR for the full 20 minutes on track.
Some things to note;
- We have a very limited window for ToR, its during the lunch period, and we have to be completely done 10 minutes before racing starts again
- We will need more volunteer corner workers (may need two per station, one on coms, the other to run and help the downed rider). We also need control riders with kick stands so they can go to the scene and assist. I may ask you to control ride (for free) if I don't have any racers with kick stand bikes.
- Downed rider will get a ride back to the pits with a control rider
All of this assumes the rider is ok. If the rider is hurt and the ambulance needs to roll, ToR is over for the day. Nothing we can do about that.
We feel this change will help bridge the gap where people are feeling let down with shortened ToR events. Remember, we are trying to make this as fulfilling as we can and as safe as possible for everyone involved. If we can get you the full 20 minutes we will, its what you paid for.
Lastly, we are curious if there is anything you would like to see added, or changed with ToR. Again, we want to make this an event people look forward to participating in, so if there are changes that will make this event smoother, and more fulfilling, let me hear it. No, Yoyodine umbrella girls are not available for the August event, but I hear Mr. Tatom is.
Thanks all, see you August 2nd!

Maurice-
These appear to be good changes, from the lessons we have learned.
Each time it seems everyone working ToR gets a little better.
In talking with Star, she thinks we should also try to have a corner worker in the outside of 3 if possible (but I know we are limited on people).
I think for sure at least two people in "6" and 9.
Also, to clarify if the bike goes down the rider doesn't ride it back in, period?
PS: I have a kickstand.

I think we have been going to the wrong T3 corner all along. Its the inside of T3 station we need to be manning, and we have been manning the outside one (closest to the pits is the wrong one).
If the rider can ride the bike in, thats even better. We may want to have the control riders take them in the back entrance for time sake tho.
i think it would be a pain in your ass to put on and remove your kick stand for the event, but thats because I R Lazy.

Sorry about the corner stuff, we just need more people willing to work them during this event. Its a pain, and I do appreciate you helping out. Can Amy cook you a steak? :p

Closest to the pits is the most common down area.... (from my perspective) I really think you need to maintain a person there... plus you can see turns 1-4 from that box with much better visibility.

The inside of T3 can see all that as well, and is in distance, closer to the track then the other station. TJ mentioned the other (inside T3 station) was more important to them then the outside (closest to the pits) one.
Also, I think the outside T3 station doesnt have all the flags as the inside one.

enter my opinion
as to your medical coverage of the event (total racing event not just ToR)
on more than one occasion I have seen your ambulance leave station with a Pt and not be replaced
with a critical Pt I can understand this
but racing resumes and you do not have an ambulance on site
This highly concerns me
do you have other trained personel on site?
do y'all even know you are without an ambulance?
if so do you access county resources at that point? (ie dial 911)
Metro does not have the 911 service in Multco and thus it doesn't have the resources as close as AMR does
the standby unit should NEVER leave the area unless the Pt is in Critical condition
they stay onsite providing care and call in a system unit for transport
I've seen them do that last year
This year I watched the ambulance leave and not get replaced for a long while
and racing resumed with them still occupied with the Pt before they left
Obviously I am more picky about this than the average racer type
but I'm just sayin...

There are at least two, maybe three ambulances on site during race weekends just for this reason.
Now get back down there and clean my taint again...

where are they?
I have a hard time believing JD would give you 3 units
with people in them
he is a tight wad
however
if you practiced his technique
you taint wouldn't get so dirty
or you could learn to wipe from the back

1 inside of turn 2 and the other in the pumpkin patch.... (outside of 9) they keep two boxes ready at all times. If one has to roll, they will call for a back up and have the turn 9 box move to 2 till the back up box arrives.

Some of the track day groups only use one unit, and the others use two. There needs to be at least one unit onsite for the track to go green, so the organizations with only one unit, need to wait for it to return.
Jacob still sucks.

I am talking OMRRA Days.... so in the "TOR" context... we should always have two... except... they might be having lunch at the time.

I know, but mountain man may not be able to differentiate between track days, and race weekends. You know how we had to show him where to put it before, its really no different now.
