More taxes

I think we should start a campaign to get an exemption for motorcycles on the monthly fee. If you use a motorcycle it's almost a necessity that you use a transponder, especially during commuting. I can just see all those 4 wheelers strating to use change now and causing huge backups at the main toll plaza on the toll road. I wonder if they'll have that option on the hot lanes? - Gene
Update - I just went to the site, must have a toll pass to use the new hot (express) lanes on the beltway.

I don't tend to use the toll lanes much by motorcycle since I live in the city, but I never carry my transponder on me. I just use the EZ Pass only lane and let the alarm go off. Then it just looks up my tag and charges me. I think I would possibly run into a problem at certain tolls like the one by Leesburg I think (I think that one doesn't have an EZ Pass only lane), but it hasn't been a problem for me yet.

The solution is simple
Pick a state that doesn't charge a monthly fee
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-ZPass
After moving here from NY, I kept my Ezpass from there. We cancelled it after not needing it for a long time and have gotten a VA one.
Now, they are both going to charge a fee.
fine, i'll cancel the VA ez pass and pick up one from Massachusetts.

I do like the logic, except...............Sometime it does not work and they take a picture(in fact the XR and S2R does work a lot cause I use the same tank bag. Now having taken said picture they are going to look up my tag and see if it is registered so they can deduct the toll from my account, so the question is do they have access to the records of other states, such as Massachusetts??? Think I'll go check that out. - Gene

Nope. There is nothing that prevents you from getting an out of state ezpass
like i said, we had the NY state ezpass for almost 2 years before giving it up -- changed our address to the VA address and everything. we used it 2-3 times driving up to New Rochelle to visit family.. zero problems.
When you go to the MA website there is a "select your state" .. tell them you are in MA and then it drops you into the MA signup form -- you can use whatever address you like there, whatever state tag you have.

My EZ Pass is VA, but I live in DC. There is no EZ Pass system for DC though of course.

Yes I know you can use it here but you missed the point I was trying to raise, if the transponder does not work they will take a picture, that picture will show my bike with VA plates. So how would they know to look on the EZ-Pass network, instead of VA EZ-Pass? So I called them, you can in fact let them know that your vehicles (in my case 8 vehicles) are linked to a transponder issued by PA, NJ, MA whatever state.... Well that is amazing, thanks for the tip Ducatiz. But how stupid is that for VA, MD? Also makes me wonder how the revenue flows and the electronic transactions between states. Seems like a gap there that is going to get closed. I may just try this with my Truck first since it is a separate transponder from the ones I use on the bikes. Looks like Delaware is free as well. - Gene

I had one from NJ and then realized they were charging me a buck a month when I could get a MD one for free. Then MD started charging a buck a month. Oh well.

Delaware and Mass do not charge a fee. DE requires a $25 deposit though for the device.
