Not true. Have a look at GPR's website (also a rotary style damper). Lots of top-level road racers use their rotary dampers. Many of the guys I race with use Scotts or GPR as well, and while it's just club racing, it's way above and beyond what a street bike will ever see (forces may be the same, but the damper works a lot more often in racing than street riding). Rotary dampers work just as well as the rod type.

Looks is another issue, but that's personal. I had a GPR on my 848 and loved it. The side-mount rod-style dampers are as ugly as it gets.

I think I still stand by what I said - I can't find any instances of a factory team or regular championship contender using a rotary style damper.   For example, factory Ducati and factory Yamaha teams all use Ohlins rod-type dampers in national circuits. Ohlins made a rotary type damper, and it was discontinued because it wasn't being picked up by race teams and had issues with it breaking in hard lock-to-lock headshake situations.   I didn't see anyone using them who was regularly on the podium in CMRA either.

All big name riders. Who cares what Ohlins did? Rod style dampers are their thing, and they make good ones. A lot of riders or their teams are sponsored by Ohlins, so of course they run Ohlins dampers...whatever style they make.

This is the perfect thread for the info I'm looking for.
I have a 2009 Monster 1100s. I'm removing the bars and riser and going to Woodcraft clipons with a 2.5" rise. I'm also installing a new speedymoto  top triple.
So here's my question.....what can I use as a damper. All dampers I've seen for monsters mount on the riser....

Yeah good idea. I would much rather have a damper mounted on top rather then on the side...
