Well I have an opportunity to buy a Sport 1000 but it would mean selling my much loved and customized 620. I've never ridden a Sport 1k. Looking for opinions from those who have familiarity with both these bikes. Should I do it? I know the Sport 1000s are no longer in production and are in demand. Both bikes are approximately the same year and milage and color for that matter. The Monster is super fun, easy and comfy to ride. Thoughts?

I had an '03 620. I kept trying to figure out how to make it into a cafe racer. Then Ducati came out with the Sport 1000 and I was pretty much boned.

Personally, I love mine and don't see myself getting rid of it. Ever. I may have other bikes, too, but I'm keeping this one.

That said, it's a very different riding experience. Much more "sport bike" ergos. Long reach, feet tucked up under you. Which reminds me, it's also a LOT taller. What kind of inseam do you have?

The sc1000 is the only modern duc I can think of that has actually gone up in price.  I think you really need to sit on it and take it for a spin to be sure though... I really think that bikes are a really personal decision due to the ergonomics.

But... I would dearly love to have a sc and if it were me making the choice, I would get it with no hesitation.

I still don't see where people get the idea that these bikes are all that tall.  I'm only 5'9", with about a 31" inseam, and I can easily flat foot with both feet when sitting on the bike.  Just about any SBK that I have been on is much taller, as is just about any KTM as well.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw that—it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

The seat's nice and narrow close to the tank, so that's doable.

The biggest place I noticed the height was when I'd switch back to my Monster while I still had it. On a Monster, you're definitely sitting much more down "in" the bike. It's almost cruiser-like in comparison.

Yeah this really is the right answer. I've also cafed my Monster to some extent as I love that look. Plus I got Boom Tubes coming in the next week for my 620 so I'd hate to put them and and sell it right away. I've always said I'd never sell it and I dont think I really could. I need a winning  lottery ticket right now.

do yourself a favor and check the tank for deformation. some SC's had SERIOUS deformation problems, including total collapse and fuel leaking.

Craigs List Chicago you cant miss it... I'm pretty much resigned to getting a Sport 1K but unfortunately not right now so I will have to wait till I'm ready and then wait for one to come up. Just bought a new car so I cant justify a new bike right now. Someone buy this up and then sell it to me in a couple years try not to put too many miles on it.  cheeky

The Sport 1000 is not a comfortable bike compared to a Monster, but it sure is purdy.  Smiley

Yep, they go reeaaallly quickly, due to high demand.  I just got one in February after months of searching (including have a deal set up, and the seller switching to another buyer at the last second).  If you get the chance to buy another, jump on it asap.  I love mine...a Black 2006 with the full Zard exhaust.  Sounds like a pissed off tiger!

That's so true.  Just merely sitting on a SC1000 in a showroom caused discomfort in my lower back.  I am sure the Pentagon bought a few SC to put them in Guantanamo Bay.
