Hello from Turkey

hi everyone
I am Elbruz from Istanbul TR and thinking of getting a monster soon (like within a couple of days)
wondered if anyone can give me some advice on which year model would be better or what should i look for on a used monster...

i narrowed down my list to 3 monsters
first one is a 2002 with 22000 kms
second one is a 2003 with 22500 kms
and the last one is a red 620ie 2003 with 21000kms
they all look in good shape and priced very closely (only $1500 between the most expensive and the cheapest)

appreciate any feedback and hopefully will be posting here some pix in the very near future

I'd go for the one with the most complete service history - proper documents demonstrating that ALL the important service work was done at the right time by qualified people.

Are those all 620s that you are looking at? 

I think you got good advice, since they are all very comparable in age, mileage, price, and condition, you probably should see which one has the best documentation on it.  The best thing to do, if you can, is to have a trusted mechanic look at the bike and give you his honest opinion on it.

You will probably get more advice if you post up in the General Monster Forum.

By the way, what are the roads like for riding in Turkey?

thanks all...

i found a reliable mechanic and will have him inspect before the purchase. i also found a few with more mileage around 40s, they are cheaper of course but i dont know if it is rational to buy one with higher mileage to save some money? i dont want to end up spending more on servicing the bike afterwards..

i believe 2 of the ones i mentioned are 600s (it says ducati monster dark 600 on the online ad).

well the roads are pretty good and the scenery is very nice in the West and South coast of Turkey. The only thing you have to watch out for is the traffic...motorbikes are not considered a vehicle (well at least by a small group of drivers) on the road. you always get honked at cause you are riding in the lane not on the shoulder or people are not paying attention to you and think you have bicycle under you going only 15mph.

Times are changing though...the number of bikes on the roads are increasing. the younger generation (including myself here) are more aware of the bikes and the rules etc.

Id recommend Turkey for a riding adventure especially the Southwest corner where you can find some twisties with the mediterrenean in the background...quite nice

i ll be doing some more reading on the forum but let me know if you can think of any major issues about buying a monster with higher mileage...thanks again and look here for some pictures soon...ciao

Hi Elbruz,

I've wanted to come back and ride in Turkey someday. I have a good friend in Adana who has a bike. Its funny, when he was here in the states for college, neither one of us rode, but then a couple of years after he moved back, we both got bikes. Any of the 2-valve monsters should be great bikes with minimal maintenance so you should be fine.

well after 3 days of anxious waiting...still no deal
i picked a 2003 620ie red with termis from the bunch (sounds wonderful!)
met the owner - who is a ducati freak
first he said he is ready to sell...now he says he is not sure and asked for more time
the bike is in good shape...some minor things but nothing critical
i dont blame the guy he loves his bike and cant give it up...i understand but
now i am so pumped up that i cant wait and might go buy a brand new one
tomorrow will see another one and hopefully will be in good shape so i can buy my monster at last.

saw some multistradas too but dont like the design that much...oh and there was this nice 748 as well but looks a bit too racey for me.

here comes the question with no good answer...what would you have bought instead of a monster? bandit? hornet? fz6?
this might be the case for me coz there are not many in Turkey...or should I just wait?

if you could afford a new monster, then go for it. do you have a ducati dealership where you live? if you do, i wouldn't hesitate.

there is nothing like a ducati. i wouldn't rush if your heart is set on a monster.
