shorter handlebar options?

Does anyone makes shorter handlebars? By shorter I want the handlebar to be narrower so that it is easier to lane split on my Monster S2R1000. I don't want clip-ons though, because I do prefer the upright riding position.

Just cut however much you want off the end of your bars, and re-drill the holes for the controls as needed.

How wide are your stock bars now? These look stock, only nicer finishing, and have ~ 5/8" more rise and 2" more sweep. For most people the wrist angle is more natural / comfortable as well. The 720mm jobs fit on my 796. http://www.motovationusa.com/mvstore/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=562

After asking around I started to seriously believe that hacksaw is the easiest solution.

I don't know about you, but I can't cut anything straight with a hacksaw.  pipe cutter is probably better.  very clean and straight cuts.

pipecutter would be best but a hacksaw and file (put painters tape at the cutting point)  will work just fine, the grips will hide the imperfections.  I would also mount all the controls before doing any cutting to make sure it all fits, there isnt a ton of space on stock bars.  also, dont forget to trim all the locating pins before tightening them all the way.


one has to wonder though; if your getting so close to other cars that you need to cut some space out of your bars, maybe you should be giving yourself a bit more room?

Any known side effects of shorten bar or clip-ons?  I ride mountain bike and shorter bar gives us more clearance between trees, but longer bar gives more control of the bike.

Shorter bar = quicker steering but higher effort since you have less leverage. Go too short with an unstable geometry and you have a recipe for tank-slappers.
