« on: May 23, 2012, 08:17:41 PM »

I've been running a '98 M750 for a while as a commuter.

Actual mileage somewhat suspect, as it was purchased salvaged 2 owners ago.
But with the info I've got, it's got no less than 22k on it.

It was obviously running rich, as it never needed any choke to start, and smelled plenty rich to boot.
So, a jet kit was in order.

Got a Factory Pro kit, CRB-D08-1.1-TI, and a set of their Nickel plated emulsion tubes/needle jets, CRZ-EMU-100120K.
All up cost is ~$178, depending on where you're at.

Prior to installation, it had a pretty severe 'sag' as the slides opened, and was generally a bit unhappy with cruising at 35mph or so in the urban flog.
Averaged 40 mpg on a mostly freeway commute.

Installed the kit and the needle jets, noting that the carbs were in decent shape, O-rings and gaskets were good.
Reset the float levels, as they were a bit high.

Immediate impression was a vastly improved quality of running, smooth and linear, no sag, and it actually needed the choke a bit to get it started.
I've only run two tanks of fuel through, but...
It's now getting 52.4 mpg.

At ~$4.40 a gallon here in SoCal, it'll take about 6800 miles for it to pay off.
At my rather high mileage commute, that's about 2.5 months.

Wish I had done it back in January when I started commuting on it, the kit would be paid off and saved over half of the cost of the tires I just bought.

Yeah but your gallons are bigger than his gallons  Wink

Since we're doing show and tell:

$6.80/imperial gallon
or
$5.68/US gallon

in my part of the world.

my 620 sees numbers like that. Even if I'm beating it, it doesn't seem to drop below 40mpg
Now the KTM  laughingdp , that thing will do close to 50 when going easy but drop somewhere below 30 when you whip it.  cheeky

Now that you mention it, I do think I have touched that once or twice.
That would have been if I were behaving though.

Yeah.....The US government <Political commentary redacted-<mod>>

Heck, I didn't think it was political....Just a fact that in the US gas costs more then what we actually pay at the pump.

So an administrator amends your post because it was political and you post the comment again?

What don't you understand?
