2009 1100 monster or 2012 1100 abs monster?

Oookkkk, so about two months ago my dearest husband took my 696 monster dark. To say he loves riding is an understatement. He has ridden her every waking moment of the day. He practically rides to the bathroom!!!! So we went to a dealership and he test rode a 796 and an 1100. He loooooovvvves the 1100. So the question is, either buy a 2012 monster 1100 w ABS for 12500. (only 2000 miles, stock) or get an 09 1100 monster for 9000 .(5500 miles, Nicky Hayden plastics..... Stock otherwise.)  pros and cons? Any input would be a great help! Thx! Btw.... I have no intention of buying new. Both of these bikes are used and look to be in good working order.

Personally I'd go for the ABS, but that's just me. Anything that will help me stop quicker in an emergency is highly beneficial to avoiding costly and painful trips to the ER.

if you are going that old, you better make sure you get the 1100S with all the ohlins, the new ones are nice because of the abs and side exhaust, but the 09 will have the dry clutch, the hayden or rossi plastics make it look a little racier than it should be, but im sure you can swap with another unit if you asked very nicely

either way you go it will be fun but the only real difference between the 2 is the exhaust and the clutch, the 2012 evo slip ons are way cheaper than the 09, but the dry clutch will make you the envy of all of the newer monster owners i think, i would like a dry clutch, but not availible on my 796

You may very well be able to do a little better than the 12,500 they're asking for the '12.  I picked up a practically new evo for 10k...so there's that. Mine had ~1000 miles on it a little over a month ago, now it's pushing 3k 

I like the the abs+traction control on the newer machine and the fully adjustable suspension if you're not looking at an 1100s.

The 1100 EVO offers ABS, which doesn't sound like is on the '09, as well as bundling-in traction control for good measure. These features offer real value, as well as peace of mind.

I'm neither pro-nor-anti dry clutch, but the wet clutch on the EVO operates superbly. Very smooth and progressive, as well as light to the touch. Plus, it has the slipper function for hard downshifting.

The 2000 miles on the EVO is just about perfect for someone looking for a used machine. The break-in period is complete at 1500 miles, and the 600-mile service is in the books. Just make sure the dealer sets the spring pre-load for your husband's weight, with him mounted-up with gear.

The suspension on the EVO, while not Ohlins, is not chopped liver either. The forks are fully adjustable, and the shock offers rebound damping. Once I dialed-in my preload and damping, the difference was visceral. It was set much too hard for my weight from the factory.

One last thought. The EVO lists at $11,995 MSRP. Your example is $12,500 with 2000 miles. You didn't say if that is an out-the-door price, but you could ask for a 10% discount due to the milage, and come in under $11,000.00. That should seal the deal.

I'd get the 09 if it's a 1100s. Love the dual spark and dry clutch. I'd probably get the 09 even if it's not a s.

Agreed.  You could buy a brand new 2012 EVO for 11,995 and they want you to pay more for a used one?

as far as i know, all of the 1100's(not s) have adjustable forks the s have the ohlins, all of the other ones have the showa or marzochi adjustables
