I was on "the Google" trying to find race results from Loudon race track, circa 1974.
A bunch of us went up there in a 24' U-Haul with a cooler made from a refrigerator laying on it's back filled with ice and beer.I turned 18 that weekend,in a sleeping bag on the roof of the truck. No real sleep between the "crossroads" I ate and the bikes ripping by all night. This was in the days of roadside camping,so there were miles of campsites up and down the road.We went to the race and I could swear I saw Kenny Roberts,Gary Nixon,Gene Romero,Dave Aldana,Dick Mann and others mixing it up but my memories are sometimes wrong.
Anyways,I came across this article about Gary Nixon, one of the best. The pic of him sideways with his tongue out is great, and captures how many of us feel when we ride.
RIP Gary.

Pretty sure your memory is accurate on that one.  Wink

Great article, thanks for sharing. I met him once late in his life at a vintage event At loudon. great guy that had a million stories.

I just read they had a auction at his house to clear out his lifetime of accumulation. Allot of bike stuff and trophies. Made me Sad to see it scattered that way.

Man, I really wish I lived up here during the "good ol' days" of Loudon racing...

Thanks for link which I passed on to "a few who were there".  Wink My son who does collector car auctions, etc. replied with the following in case anyone here has deep pockets!  Cool

"Gary Nixon's estate auction is this weekend in York, PA

Say what you will but the last bike auction these guys did nothing went cheap."

Hmmm... that cub is pretty cute!  Grin http://www.auctionzip.com/cgi-bin/photopanel.cgi?listingid=1433190&category=0&zip=&kwd=
