I have always lusted over Ducati SBK"s.....

Maybe I an weak right now....my Monster is down, carb issues.

Anyway....here is a local CL ad that I came across
http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/mcy/3074277454.html

KBB is $8720
really doesn't fit my riding needs...but I LIKEEE!!!

My riding is 30 miles a day freeway commute & 10-15 miles 35-45 mph roads.
note***** we have no track here on Oahu... :'(

Thought's???

I went through the same agonizing....I decided not to do it for a number of unrelated reasons.  But I was on the fence.

In your case, maybe there are ways to increase the comfort just enough to make it bearable for your commute.  But having ridden in Hawaii (albeit only one day), a Ducati seems very impractical.  I rented a Harley, and I hate Harleys.  But it was perfect for the roads there.

So I understand your desire, but suspect you'll wind up unhappy, especially if you don't have somewhere you can give it the occasional flogging to push it a bit and let it be in its real element.

To be completely fair, however, that bike gives me a boner.   laughingdp

Decent amount of mods on it and gorgeous bike.  If you want it and can afford it, get it.  Choosing a bike is more emotional than logical anyways.  If you don't do what you want now, when will you?   chug

SCHWING!
What year is it? I don't see it listed so I don't know how you came up with the KBB.
It has the heat insulation under the seat which is a mandatory mod.

never apply logic to a bike purchase or you'll end up with a moped.  Evil

I reckon that'd need some twisted logic. A twist and go scooter certainly ... but a moped?

I'd keep an eye out for a used 1098 vs a 848... they're going for about the same price now.

But yeah... I'd avoid a duc sbk for commuting.

I had an 848...1st one sold in Seattle actually.

Great bike for the track and nice roads without traffic...horrible bike for traffic and slow roads. Heli Bars made it a lot more comfortable, but it pushed a lot of heat onto the rider at stoplights. I think it would be one of my last bike choices if I lived in Hawaii, especially considering there isn't a track. IMO, the Monster is a far better option.

I called the owner...its a 2008.

The PO of my M900 & my mechanic has a 848.....he to has commented on the 848's dislike of traffic or slow running, along with overheating.
He described the bike as "Single Purpose"........

 Lips Sealed

"Think your morning commute is bad? Do you live in Honolulu? A new study released by INRIX shows that Honolulu has the nation’s worst traffic.
According to the report, drivers in Honolulu sat in traffic for 58 hours last year".
Even yesterday on my 13 mile commute on the freeway...I had to put my feet down about 6x (complete stops)

Think i should nix the 848 impulse til I can afford it as a 2nd bike!!

if you feel like you have some money burning a hole in your wallet that you'de like to spend, perhaps a good 400-650cc dual sport is in your future for to go hit the road to the unbeaten paths of exploration off the tarmac?!?!?!

Fixed your post for you.  Wink

To the OP, have you considered the Streetfighter 848?  I've ridden it and it's a hell of a bike.
