It comes on for a few seconds when the bike is first turned on then it just shows the Mileage and never displays again until the bike is turned on again...

It means to say "maint" as in short for "maintenance."  Why Marelli can't spell, I don't know.

Do a search for "reset maintenance light" after you change your oil and belts.

is this trigger by miles?  i just did an oil change like 4 days ago.  and my belts are new..

I think it is triggered by mileage. If I remember correctly to reset it you hold the left odometer button down, insert key/turn on, let the gauges sweep, turn off/remove key.

i got the "maint" message at an odd time but it turns out my 4 year old battery was dying and couldn't hold a charge anymore. Nice to know it warned me of that.
