it has begun!!!

ok, i have an m796, and i acquired some hypermotard 1100 cams(older not evo) and i started to tear into my engine, scary right?
i have 7200 miles on it, so its just about due for the 7500 valve check anyways, so i figured, might as well swap the cams and do the valve adjust anyways.. whats 2 extra bolts and nuts anyways?
start by removing tank and timing belt covers
then set the cams to tdc via timing mark
i broke my socket i made to get these castle nuts off, so i ended up drilling them out and using a chisel and hammer to knock off the nuts, pretty much destroying them in the process, i have new nuts so thats fine
this nut cracked in half when i used my chisel, they were on there GOOD(crappy cell phone pic)
heres what it looks like without the nut
"new to me" cam on left, stock on the right, looks like its got a little longer duration and more overlap, so more power!!!!
im calling it a night with the vertical head pretty much done, ill tackle the horizontal cam tomorrow

its very hard to tell and prob silly to call from here, but it looks like the cam on the right has more lift.... can u confirm which of the two cams is the 1100 cam, and maybe a better picture?

i verified the grind id and it is from a hypermotard 1100, the cam on the right is the stock 796 cam i just pulled out of my engine

true, it is hard to call from those pics. 1100 cam my actually be milder since the bigger motor doesnt like to rev so much....

IIRC: lift is the same across the new air-cooled motor stock cams, 696 & 796 make due w/less duration.

yea but a longer duration could make more power when fueled correctly
for reference my bike stock pulled 75hp to the wheel

does the 1100 also have larger valves? another reason for a possible milder lift cam being used in std form.
if its the same lift and longer duration as the op and duck-stew thinks, it could make a nice improvement with some extra fuel. all depends on the heads then i suppose.

1100 are using larger valves. and the heads aren't exactly identical.
cams are just using longer duration/overlap

lets see if my table works
CAM I O I C E O E C IN DUR EXH DUR IN C/L EXH C/L LOBE SEP O'LAP IN LIFT EXH LIFT
696/796 18 60 53 23 258 256 111 105 108 41 11.2 10.8
1000 15 65 62 19 260 261 115 111.5 113 34 11.2 10.8
EVO 14 73 66 25 267 271 119.5 110.5 115 39 11.8 11.2
so the 1100 has a little more duration, same lift and wider lobe seperation (less overlap). might hurt the middle a little a bit.

Why not start by porting the head for better flow/power?
