Greetings fellow monstrophiles,

I had the ECU of my 2007 S2R1000 reflashed to DP spec (i.e. part no. 96517406B). After refitting the reflashed ECU, I went for a short ride to the service station and noticed the bike was "stuttering" a lot under 3K rpm and popping loudly on deceleration. After stopping for a fill-up, she refused to start again, forcing me to push it 2kms to get back home.

My bike has Termignoni pipes (no cat, but lambda sensor plugged in) and Spark silencers. I hadn't received the K&N filter that I had ordered when I went on the test ride mentioned above, so the airbox and air filter were stock. I have since fitted the K&N and tried to start the bike without the airbox lid, but she still doesn't start.

I suspect that the over-rich mixture induced by the remapped ECU might have fouled the plugs, but I haven't been able to check them yet as I don't have a spark plug socket of the correct size (18mm?) handy. I intend to check it out when I get my hands on the correct socket...

In the meantime, I would greatly appreciate any suggestions that you could give me for troubleshooting this very annoying problem (not being able to ride since the last 2 weeks is pure torture!).

PS: I have not had any indications from the dash that anything is astray with the ECU. The only odd behaviour that I noticed is that when I switch the ignition to "Off", the headlight takes about 30 sec to switch itself off, whereas before, it switched off immediately.

PPS: I was going to get the TPS reset done by my mechanic, but since the bike won't even start, that will have to wait...

Cheers!

I hate to state the obvious but you need to contact who ever reflashed it. If your bike ran fine prior to reflash you have no chance of troubleshooting the problem. Other then checking all elec. connections including battery ground your problem is the reflash

Thanks for the reply. I finally got around to extracting the spark plugs: they were covered in a reddish-oily liquid. Stuck a finger in the fuel tank and rubbed it against another: oily as well. I don't know how I managed it, but I believe that I started my bike at the service station with a tank full of DIESEL..... bang head bang head bang head bang head bang head bang head bang head bang head bang head bang head bang head bang head bang head bang head bang head

Yeah, I realise it seems pretty funny from the outsider's perspective...

However, I'm 95% sure that it was my fault: it distinctly remember using the 98 octane unleaded nozzle (in green vs. black and orange for the diesel nozzles at this station - Total) and my receipt shows that I was charged for 98 octane. So, I'm thinking some moron filled the wrong pump with diesel...

Anyhoo, been having "fun" sucking diesel out of the tank (doesn't even give you the same buzz as petrol - but tastes less offensive  drink). Unbolting the tank and flipping it over didn't release a drop - I think it is designed to do that though. Couldn't figure out another way of draining the bastard - had a look at the fuel pump "flange" thingy: not convinced that it is worth the trouble of un-plugging.

Next task for the weekend is cleaning out the plugs and then the moment of truth!  Undecided

Wish me luck folks!
