Picked up a Ducati Performance Seat for my 2005 620 and it seems like it does not fit as well as the original OEM seat. Doesnt lock in well. Even if I get it locked in the back the front can easily be popped out and it comes right out of the locking mechanism. Anyone else encounter this issue with these seats. The original seat had no issues and locked in tight easily. Considering this is an official Ducati part I was a bit surprised.

There's been several changes to seats over the life of the Monster. The pre 2000 seats are a slightly different shape where they meet the tank to the later ones, then the FI bikes changed slightly as well. There might also have been a change with they switched from the 888 based frame to the ST one (when the vertical tube from the rear engine mount bolt appeared). (There's almost certainly more changes in newer bikes too, I kinda stopped paying too much attention when it became clear that newer-than-2001 parts weren't going to be much use for my '99 bikeā€¦)

Are you sure the DP seat you got was intended for an '05 bike?

+1

Lots of stories about washers required to make the lock lockable, but the front doing what yours does is new.

Picture of or part # for the DP seat?

It was this seat although I actually bought it from Bellissimoto. For some reason they no longer have it on their website.

It fits but as I said it doesnt lock on well at all.

Yes, that should be the correct seat.

It's probably not too difficult to fix the lock issue, but if it falls out of the tab/frame mount... that would worry me.
Have you checked if the tabs actually slide in under the frame mounts?
(if the seat is new and the foam not broken in, it's possible that the tabs didn't fully catch)(I've done that on my rebuilt seat)

I had the same issue with mine when I bought it (used) a year or so ago.  I shimmed the locking mechanism up from the frame of the bike with a couple thin washers and it fixed the problem...on mine it was like the "stem" that inserts into the lock mechanism was almost too short.

That sounds like it would fix my issue. Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a shot.  waytogo
