http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/racing/bmw-consolidates-2013-world-superbike-effort/

"Equally unknown is what this means for BMW’s overall motorcycle racing program, whose bikes we recently tested at Misano, as the German OEM has been linked to an interest in racing in the MotoGP Championship. Clever accountants could read this announcement as precursor in a shift of resources at BMW Motorrad from WSBK to MotoGP."

I somehow doubt that Melandri and Haslam will have to fight for their spots as they've been pretty solid this year... but I would love it if BMW went to MotoGP... one more factory to provide rides for a lot of the new incoming talent would be great.

It would also give Audi even more incentive to dump more money into Ducati to compete directly with them.

Hmmm.... Don't know if there's a marketing cross-over to the car world from the bikes (do bikes sell cars? I don't know many any folks who bought Suzuki Samurais because of GSXRs ) but it'd be nice if the car guys thought there was  Grin

I don't understand why they are folding the factory tent so fast.  This has been their best season by far, and the S1000RR is finally winning races.  It would be awesome to see them in MotoGP, but I am surprised they would not focus on winning a title or several in WSBK first.

ask Yamaha the same question when they folded on Melandri....maybe it has something to do with Melandri...he goes to a factory team, and they fold...

titles don't count?  Smiley

corser won in 2005.  ten kate won WSS titles, what, 635 times?  and toseland destroyed wsbk in 2007.

nope.  factory supported for sure, but all the work was done in italy... all that reconfiguring of the bike, gas tank, etc was theirs.
