Old Exhaust Gaskets
«

Removed my headers to put on new Boom Tubes and there were no exhaust gaskets in the exhaust ports.
Well actually they were there but they were so old and compressed you could barely distinguish them. I had to use a screw driver to pop them out. Pickin up new ones tomorrow.

You can tell they are a wear item, because Ducati charges an arm and a leg for them.

Right, but I'm sure you could find exhaust gaskets that work just fine that are not "Ducati".

Ah, I have a different type of gasket. They are a split type...$17 each.

Those aren't the gaskets.
Those pieces push the pipe into the gasket because the flange pushes on them.

Learned something new today, thanks DP.
Looks like I've been running without them or the old ones are still there, just smashed/baked to nothing!

They're probably in there. They compress pretty flat.
They aren't much money from the dealer. If they aren't leaking leave it alone.

FWIW, I bought a kind of Dental pick from a surplus tool place. Straight on one end, 90 degree in the other. 90 side is perfect for pulling the old gasket.
Me, I use a new one every time, Dame with exhaust nuts. Firm believer in the adage "if you don't have time to do it right, you certainly don't have time to re-do it.".
