Dyna Coils: upgrading ignition coils on '99 Monster 750

Hi Everyone,

I've been dealing with a mechanical issue lately that may come down to needing new ignition coils or possibly just new spark plug cables. From what I read about dyna coils they seem like a worthwhile upgrade whether it fixes my issue or not (will resolve that first if it's not the coils at fault) as I understand they smooth out the low end. I started searching the threads for info about Dyna coils, but most of what I saw was at least a couple years old. Seems like everyone bought theirs from CA Cycleworks. Now they no longer sell Dyna coils but instead their own brand. I'm looking for opinions as to the differences between Dyna and these ExactFit coils. Does anyone have experience with the ExactFit or both and has compared them? I like that the set from CAC comes with the cables and everything. Dyna seems to offer several options and I don't understand the differences, and I'm not sure what they come with. There's also a warning on Dynatek's website saying their products are meant for racing courses and not street bikes. Are they just covering their asses or is that sound advice? Side question: any opinions on NGK racing cables (should my issue be pinned down to just the spark plug cables)? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

the cycleworks dyna kit had custom-made brackets to mount them, i dont think you could buy just coils and plug then in without fabrication

I have used both Dyna and Exactfit coils. Both worked better than the aging stock coils and helped smooth out low speed/light throttle operation.
IME Exactfit coils cost less and fitted exactly to the stock brackets.

Carb/injection tuning and ignition mapping also contribute to low speed/part throttle running if you have an issue there.

This doesn't answer the original questions that were asked, but maybe it'll help.

Way before the turn of the century I purchased a Dyna coil kit that included a bracket and spark plug wires for my '95 900SS (RIP) and a few years later a second kit for my '97 M900.  I bought both kits from Britalia Motors in Capitola, CA.  That second kit continues to work just fine.

I reckon a lot of people would like to see the bracket provided with the Dyna coils.

btw- i noticed mpg was noticeably improved with the coil kit.
was expecting that...nice side effect

Thanks everyone. It seems like the ExactFits are a good deal, unless the Dyna's have some special quality that justifies the price difference. Looking at Bevel Heaven reminded me of another question - what's the difference between the 3 ohm and 5 ohm coils from Dyna (besides 2 ohms ;~)? It's a shame though that this upgrade probably won't solve my mechanical issue that's described here: http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=58423.45  I will have to wait a bit to do this, but at least I'll be able to do the install myself.
