besides doing a ecm upgrade or power programer and a 14tooth front sprocket and exhaust, what can be done to a 2009 696,  I hit the 7500 mile mark and when I do the belts and valve adjustments can the heads be shaved down, is there a stroker kit for this bike or should I just upgrade to a 796? I have seen engine kits for 796 and up but nothing for a 696,  I like my monster 696 and feel very comfortable on it but it just needs a little more umph for me.  any help or advice.  thanks in advance

I would trade up to a larger capacity model that fits you.

yea, upgrade to a larger bike, i found that the 796 was teetering on the fine line where the insurance jumps significantly, the 1100 would have been a few hundred more a year, i would have considered an 1100 if it wasnt going to kill my bank, i may still upgrade to one eventually but i love my 796

i don't think that a 696 to a 796 merits the change. get some more experience on the 696 and save up.

The 696 still has power that can be tapped.
port and polish, airbox/pods mod, exhaust, ecu/PC V, etc.

just depends how much money you have to put into it.

if you want to keep it for ever you can go nuts like raux, knowing the money you put into it you will never see again.  that's the main point here - hotting them up doesn't just spend money that you won't see again, it can actually devalue the bike compared to a std one.  you can hot anything up, it just takes money.

if you want a 696 with resale then pipes and ecu are all that's worth doing.

if you really want to keep this bike, i'd buy an 1100 motor and fit it.  change the ecu and that's it.  that way you can make it a 696 again to resell and sell the motor seperately.

or buy an 1100 and save yourself a shit load of agro.

+1 to everything he said.

some good advice.  I just feel real comfortable on the bike, which does not happen very often.  besides the front suspension being not so good the bike fits me well, I did loose 15 pounds for the bike so I am now 175lb's.  I put leo vince exhaust slip-on's on, which I dont think does anything for performance, is getting a power commander the way to go or actually get the ecm recalibrated so when I put on pod filters or update the rest of the exhaust?

Don't listen to a hypocrite like me! I had a sensible attack! I have overinvested in my old 900 because it fits me better than any bike I've ridden.

You can fit higher compression pistons, bigger bore, hotter cams, porting, bigger valves, lighten flywheel and clutch, rework suspension and upgrade brakes just to start.

But I would test ride other bigger bikes to check if you fit first.

I'm running 1100 cams with PC V, Termi ECU and highflow air filter setup.

A lightweight flywheel does wonders as well  Dolph

for pistons/rods bore/stroke you'll need to do some custom work.

The 796 is basically a stroked 696. but no one has confirmed deck height/rod length etc.

Also, there are 88mm HC pistons out there, but again, deck height hasn't been confirmed nor pin sizes.

The 696 has the largest valves that will work at that bore (Source: a great Ducati race builder) so a port & polish will definitely help but larger valves will not.

The Throttle bodies are the same as the 1100 so there is plenty of flow there, probably a lot more than the airbox is allowing.

There are a couple of places making Pod filters to increase static flow (IMO pods decrease flow at higher speeds)

No one is making a larger airbox (yet, I keep saying to myself to get off my ass and do it)

A few larger opening airbox mods and filters are available.

The powercommander V is the one that works with the 696

ok cool thanks.  I am going to pick up a 14t sprocket, and the power commander and maybe do the air pods.  on my 2stroke to help smooth out the power band I went from a 2 pod set up to a 1 into 2 set up.  is that something that they offer. obviously the 2 stroke had carburators.  Raux how did the cam swap from the 1100 change the power.  did you have to raise the idle or advance or retard the timing.  that cam swap is getting excited lol

I haven't run a full tune, I just found a shop I trust with it.

The bike definitely has more power now though. With all the changes I have I am certain that someone with skill (not me) could lift the front.

It just needs to be smoothed out and tuned properly. Maybe this winter.
