Nah, thats ok.  If I find myself with an extry $4,000 that Im having trouble spending Im planning to get the 848 dryclutch conversion kit and retro fit it to the 796.  (And no one start with me...I KNOW it doest fit...yet)
Me and my machines could make it fit.  Grin

THIS.more info on this please?

google is your friend...https://www.denniskirk.com/stainless-steel-reusable-spin-on-oil-filter.p305881.prd
but dad gum! That thing really hangs out dont it?

The link that Memper put up tells you everything you need to know. Basically, you just clean out the filter cartridge instead of replacing the filter. The photos don't do it justice. Machine work and finish on the part is very nice.

The filter looks like it hangs down so far because of the angle of the photo. It is a bit longer than a regular filter, but just barely.

Pic gives you a better look at it:

Form and function, gets a thumbs up from me. Pick one up for your next oil change. Then you can justify it to yourself by thinking you would of had to shell out some cash for a filter anyway.  Grin

Thought about that, but it would look too much like a normal filter then. Kinda dig the way it is shaped, and a dark color would hide that.
....... but that's just my opinion.  Smiley

Looks like its come down in price a touch...still wont fit the monsters though, not that you have to worry about that with a 1100DS motor  waytogo

I know theres motor work involved in getting the kit to work with the small case motors, as I understand, the case cover works, but theres an issue with the output shaft...or something like that...

Some day.

Got to agree with Detroit here. Sorry Raux, I really like the un-painted look.

Two big reasons I chose my bike: SSA and Dry Clutch.  Grin

Just took a quick look into it, but looks like all you would need besides the kit is a custom shaft. However between: machining, heat treating, and nitriding that would be a stupid expesive part. sorry man, wish I had better news for you Sad

Monster update:

Picked up an open front sprocket cover. Going for a very skeletal look with my bike. I want everything to open and visible. Can not wait to ditch the air box.
I get chain grease on my boot after I clean my chain now.  laughingdp

Billet oil fill cap. Not a big deal, but I love little details like this. Cheap and easy to install.

Shop update: My other bikes are leaking everywhere

Internals of the front master cylinder on my Norton failed awhile ago vomit. Also, I am dumb, brake fluid eats powder coat. Have a new one ordered.

Aprilia has an oil leak at one of the valve cover bolts. New bolt gasket on the way.

Yep, thats as far into the research as I got too.  I interned at Smith & Wesson for a summer, I wonder if I can sneak in a favor and get the heat treat done there... (sorry to thead jack, but whats this nitriding step you speak of?)  Don't get me wrong, I'm super happy with the 796, Its got the SSS, and keeps me under the liter mark so I can afford the insurance, and I'm so invested in mine already that throwing another $3000 at it is just another step of the game, just a big step thatll wait a few years.

Whats this nitriding step you speak of?
No big.

Nitriding is a case hardening process, where nitrogen in defused into a metal to create a wear surface. I also forgot about the grinding step. When we have done custom shafts before there were four steps: Machining, Heat treating to relieve stress, Nitriding to case harden, and grinding to bring the dimensions into tolerance.

By the way, since you interned there, can you get Smith & Wesson products on the cheap? Because, they make a few thing I would like to get my hands on.  Grin

Bike update:

Got some Woodcraft clip ons with zero rise, and mounted my CRG shorty levers. I can already feel the pain in my arms, hands, and back laughingdp. Also, made some mock-up brackets out of sheet stock for my gauge pack. I will machining some out of billet after I have the new headlight mounted.

Also, got a seat with some cool red stitching and two texture vinyl. Much more comfortable than the OEM seat.  Dolph

Shop update:

Fixed the oil leak in the Aprilia SXV, so I can get back to riding the hell out of it.

Norton's master cylinder is dissembled. Hard parts are sent off for powder coat, and a new rebuild kit / throttle cable are on the way.

Has anyone here ever driven the handle bar bushing out of the stock triple clamp before? Thinking about doing it, and want to know how much trouble I am in for.

I have and Raux has.  Super easy as long as you use a press. Plus it's a really handy location for two 12v sockets!!! Here's the link to what mine looks like with it done.  You can see them in my reply down the page a little.  Id post a pic but I'm on my phone right now...

Thanks man, we have a press over at the shop so no worries. Did you have to put some heat to the triple clamp, or did you press them out cold?

I pressed them out cold. and btw press up. the bottom has a lip

I'd like to see what you come up with for the gauge bracket

it looks like you have enough room to put the clipons above the triple. the stock gull wing triples really put those low. i have a flat aftermarket triple with the same clipons below it.

As far as the Comfort seat. I know it seems more comfortable for your butt, but it raises your butt up about an inch, further increases the weight on your wrists. go back to the stock seat and you will feel less pressure on your arms.

Unfortunately, I lost my discount when I stopped my internship.  Your not the first one to ask.

As for your top triple, I have a black speedymoto top triple that will be going up for sale in a few months if your interested...Im going to SBK forks and an IMA complete triple setup, so I have no need for the speedymoto piece.

Thanks for the tips, and I will post some photos of the gauge pack bracket when I get it done.

I really like the clip ons mounted that low with the stock top triple. I am willing to sacrifice some comfort to get the look I want.

The seat works for me. I have lots of upper body strength and a boney back side  laughingdp. So more pressure on my arms and extra padding for my butt is a good thing.

Raux is spot on as he is the one who told me how to do it. Lol.

Yeah, pretty sure he knows what he is talking about.  Smiley

Dang, worth a shot.  Grin

I am just planning on messing with the stock clamps for right now. Appreciate the offer though. Later, I plan on designing my own triple clamp system. Put up a thread when you get your IMA clamps installed. I would like to see them.
