Just picked up the new 05 749s... She sure sounds sweet!

I noticed that the tank is a bit loose and I am wondering if anyone has a 749/999 and may be able to help me diagnose/correct the problem.

My research tells me that the tank and the seat are all connected, but I am unclear as to how the tank is secured to the frame otherwise.

Tank has two bolt-on prongs at the front, inserted into rubber sleeves inside tubes on the frame.
Attached to the bottom of fhe seat with one large bolt at the rear.

Thanks! Looks like I'll need to pull the tank up to check. Can this be done without disconnecting the fuel lines?

Yes but you can't move it around too much. I'll email you the workshop  manual when I get out of the hospital later today. Cool that we both have the 749 now!

See those things are dangerous... you should have been on your Moto bike. Frank crashed his, TWICE and all he got was some boo-boo that a band aid covers.

Heal quickly man. Jaw injuries suck. No break, but had a jaw sprain once (kicked in the head) and that sure sucked. Can only assume a break is much less fun.

 That's what I now appreciate about my monster-- it was very easy to work on. The 749 takes quite a bit more fussin' and cussin'. I've changed the belts and am working up the courage to try a TB sync and general tune up.

I love the 749/999 style bikes, but they are not half as reliable as the 748 and 996 based bikes IMO.  999's run hard are notorious for problems
