Powder-coating...

I want to get a dark 696 and I saw a picture of one with the exhaust photoshopped black.  I know absolutely jack about mechanics and the modification of motorcycles.  I'm not a big fan of carbon fiber, but I have this idea of a black, stainless steel, and gold color scheme on a dark 696.  Is it possible to say, for instance, get a set of termi stainless pipes and have them powder-coated to a color that I want?  The same applies to other parts of the bike, like the clutch cover, fuel lines, and brake calipers.  I don't know if the terminology is correct, but I think a dark monster with golden brake disks would look amazing.  Are there parts of the bike that can't be changed color for some reason or another?  Last stupid question...  How much does powder-coating cost? 

On a more rational side, before I take the bike home, I plan on having frame sliders put on, and have a 14t front sprocket put on as well.  Any info would be appreciated.

cost i don't have a clue. you cannot powdercoat exhaust it would just burn off. you can get them cermic coated but it will eventualy burn off as well. fuel lines are a no go, but you can buy colored braided steel one. clutch cover definitlt can be done as well as the calipers.

Thanks, that would be awesome.  I would love to get some termi stainless or titanium and have them matte black.

On the less expensive end of the spectrum, people have pulled their cans, cored them (to let out the growl) and used high temp paint to paint the body of the cans.  Think bbq paint.  Though no one (to my knowledge) has pulled apart 696 cans

Catch here is that you can't do the header pipes with that paint.  It's hight temp, but won't really handle the heat of the headers.  POR-15 makes 'Black Velvet' header paint, which will hold up.  But it's velvety finish.

Another though it is have the header off and polish them.  If you get a high quality poloishing job done, it'll last quite a while and come back to life with just a little help.

For the ceramics, blacks the least heat resistant.  But looking at jet hots site, it looks like they can coat in black over their 'Extreme Sterling' finish to help bump up the heat resistance.

  As far as exhaust goes, the dealer installed the stainless slip-ons by mistake. They look awsome, the finish is polished and they almost look like titanium (hint of gray and blueish) I think they would be perfect with a black bike. I stuck with the carbon but it was a tough choice!

+1 on Jet-Hot.  I went with the matte black for the midpipe replacement, s pipes and even the heel guards near the back.  I like.  Every application is different on the price so call 'em up and they'll quote you over the phone.  Just tell them what you want to do.
