Deal or no Deal? 1/12 796
«
on:

I hate that I used such a cliche line for the subject, but I really want this bike, but I'm not on the market to be bamboozled.
Stats:
1/12 Ducati Monster 796
Aftermarket Termi Slip ons with new ECU and Filter Installed
Stock exhaust and ECU come with
800 Miles
Dealer Demo bike.
(Personally, it's my least desired color, Red on Red)
Bottom line price 12,000 OTD
Is that too much?
Is that a great deal?
Is 11k to little to ask for the bike, stock parts and a helmet?
I appreciate any type of expedient reply, negotiations are underway...

that seems like a lot of money to pay for 1/12th of a bike!
doesn't the bike list for ~10? so if you figure another 17-1800 for the termis, plus tax, and you figure in the cost of the first service which i would assume has already been done, 12k for it otd doesn't seem like a bad price to me, but I certainly wouldn't call it a steal... but keep in mind i'm pretty sure the saying "don't be gentle with the rental" also applies to demos...
if it's your last choice on color, and you're only saving a couple of hundo, I'd probably just cough up the dough for whatever it is you really want.
I'm guessing they're not taking 11k with extras thrown in...but it can't hurt to ask

$10,295 if MSRP. You add up the bits you describe and you are paying full retail on a demo bike. Are the termi's slip ons with or without ECU? Either way you can find a better deal IMO. Most of all DO NOT settle if it's not your favorite color.

Quoted from the Salesman, "Bike sells for $10295.00. Out the door with tax, freight, set up and license comes to $11626.00. In this case, we have the exhaust system (1635.50 + tax and installation = $1923.63) and the first service ($200.00) So figure $13749 out the door on regular basis. Now then, figuring in the demo discount ($800) and Dealership discount ($600) You can ride it home for $12349.00!"
Then he marked it down to 12 even.
It seems practical, but the fairy tale I concocted in my head, the price was much lower...
Muskrat: The new computer was installed with the slip-ons as well as the filter. And I'd hate to settle on the color, but A a body kit can be purchased and B, I really want that MONSTER!

a body kit for another 600 to 1100? I'd pass and wait for the right color and price if it were me. He asked for opinions.....I don't see the deal here especially since he's still another 600 away from getting the color he wants.

Not a good deal, not a bad deal. If the dealer goes for Muskrat's idea of switching bodywork to something you like the deal sounds better. Make sure you get the full warranty you are supposed to on a demo, from date of delivery to you.

Crap...
They didn't go for 11...
Now I'm either at upgrades on a used bike or Stock/New bike with the color of my choice...
Damn... I need a money tree.

relax, she'll show up soon enough. What part of this country are you in so you can elicit the help of forum members? here's a fine example

yeah, that's not a great deal. It's not even a decent deal. You should never pay for mods because you'll never get paid for mods when you go to resell it.

Thats kinda a rip off. Mods (at least in my experence) do not increase the value of a bike when buying / selling.
Find some similar bikes for sale online with a lower price tag. print out the details and show them to the dealer. Then ask why you should buy their bike.
Good luck with negotiations.

I'm in Michigan. Between Flint and Detroit.
But I have no problem looking at
Ohio (no white ones)
Indiana (no response)
Illinois (no white)
Pennsylvania (I haven't checked)
Canada... kinda?
I did find a pretty nice black 796 in Ducati Indianapolis (dealer) Used with 6XX miles, first service done, for 9200. They have yet to respond to my inquiry...

while i'm typically inclined to agree with not paying for mods on a used bike, I think you'd have a hard time convincing a dealer that a basically brand new exhaust doesnt increase the value of a pretty much brand new bike at all... the reality is that those parts, even though slightly used, are certainly not worthless...otherwise you wouldn't see guys selling parts and returning bikes to stock.
no dealer is going to throw 2 grand out just to put termis on a demo...they're on there to help sales guys sell more bikes, and sell more exhausts.
I still don't think 12k out the door is a bad price for that bike...it's just not the bargain the dealer is telling you it is. You're always going to pay more at a dealer than a private sale...they're running a business, not just selling a machine.

Definitely not a good deal. I bought my 1100 EVO with 1000 miles and warranty until April of 2014 for 10k.
