Failed 14t sprocket install

I bought a 14T sprocket a few months ago for my S2R800. This weekend I decided to fit it.
After looking at a few threads here about how to do it, it looked pretty straight forward.
I managed to get the 15T sprocket off without a hitch. I put on the new one but my trouble started when I went to screw in the bolts that hold the plate to the sprocket.
I couldn't get them to start in the thread. I was using the same bolts from the original sproket as there weren't any new bolts with the new sprocket. In the end I took the sprocket back off the bike to see what was happening with the thread. I don't recall anyone else having this problem. I could get the bolt started but it was so tight it felt like it would strip the bolt. It looked like it had rounded off the thread on the bolts as well so I didn't force the issue.
I have a box of bolts and other bits I've collected from previous bikes but I couldn't find anything to fit there either. A trip to the hardware store also came up with nothing that would fit into the sprocket thread. I've concluded that the sprocket has faulty threads. That is the only logical conclusion I can come to.
So I ended up refitting the 15T and going for a ride. I'll be taking the sprocket back to the dealer to see whats up.
BTW, I borrowed the chain adjustment tool from a friend who has a VFR800 with SSS. Its fits my Duc just fine.
I was really interested to see what difference the 14T makes. I guess I'll have to wait.
Can anyone confirm that the original bolts fitted into your new sprocket when you did the conversion?

Yep, me too.
What would it be, maybe a 4-5mm bolt?
You don't have a thread tapper handy?

They're 5mm bolts.
Likely the sprocket is pretty hard, not so easy to run a tap through sometimes.
Better to get another from the dealer.
