too old to remember my titanium member...

« on: October 10, 2012, 05:44:59 AM »

ok, I don't get it.  I get pulled over, but as near as I can tell, everyone in the universe here does this.  I've even had cars move over to the side when I pull up behind them so I can go by..  WTF?  Then they are looking at me like, "well?  go!", and people on rat bike scooters are slipping by me looking back muttering, "tool."  or whatever the aussie equivalent for "tool" is ( yank? ).  Is it less bad if you stopped?  because I got popped just slipping between cars up to the red light.  don't get it.

you guys lane split filter?

In the U.S., that is only legal in CA.  In practice, it is tolerated in a small number of other places, but the cops can dun you for it any time.  My impression is that it's legal and accepted in pretty much every other country in the world, but I can't say from personal experience.

Filtering is pretty normal here abouts, though it isn't legal. IME the police will ignore you unless you're also guilty of public stupidity (ie filtering at speed, riding with a Brian sized exhaust, etc).

Of course that doesn't mean you should filter past coppers - that's asking for it.

Svoloch, i'm glad that you bought this topic up, we down here in OZ land have two effective methods that i know of re txtíng.

Firstly, we have the secretive txt stance, The reverse double pike , ie. turning your back on the traffic so they can't read your message......   waytogo

Not wanting to attract attention, this one is my favourite. The lazy way, just lean on the tank and go for it  !    This guys got to be one of the cleverist L platers i've seen     waytogo

note how he solved the glove problem, plus I want a pair of those Grosby slippers     Roll Eyes

But please don't attempt either while lane splitting, that could get you a warning here in NSW, possibly a ticket      Grin

Ouch   !     Why are people so unkind, nothing but an inexpensive safety item compliments of Termigoni , so its gotta be legal, but  lacking a little in length , thats all       coffee

Ok, well I did filter past a cop, but only because I was swinging around a bus and didn't see him, because I was standing in my passenger seat and facing the other direction while texting "hey!  You can lane split here!!!" back to my buddies in the states.  And, I've got termis.  That's probably why...

Hey mate, I bought a spool of conductive thread for a project a while ago and used it to make one pair of my gloves work with my capacitive touch phone... If you want to give it a try I can give you some.. Spool was pretty expensive, but you don't need a lot of it for what you want to do (just a couple of stitches really).

Lemme know.

Why the make the beast with two backs (WTF) would anyone want to farcebook whilst riding is beyond me, maybe Sydney traffic isn't enough of a challenge.

  Good luck with that activity.

If I need to pull over to use my phone it just works while wearing my leather dainese gloves. Maybe the leather is thin or I just have warm hands?

There's a pair of winter gloves on thisiswhyimbroke.com check them out. Maybe the finger tip bits can be applied to riding gloves.
Its a pretty funny site too

Well, for me, I like to snap pics while I'm riding a wheelie down Anzac Parade, and then get the pics up to Facebook before the next light so I don't spill my bourbon.  So some kind of special white glove is definitely in my future.

Hey, that'd be awesome.
Sweet, next social or ride I manage to get out on I'll be sure to grab some for you.
It's pretty heavy thread (thick), so you'll need the appropriate leather needles, etc.
