This is just my opinion, but my guess is that generating the forces required for the slider to damage the frame would involve a lowside violent enough that severe damage would likely occur regardless of the use of the frame sliders. Maybe not to the frame, but possibly enough that the bike would be totaled regardless.

Just a though.

Thats another reason I liked the Cyclecats they have the extra sheer piece in them for just that reason. to protect to the point of failure.then fail the part not the total the bike.

t-rex's will not fit a 2000 and below duc. despite what manufacturer claims. bolt supplied is 12mm one on my duc is 10mm. then the aluminum piece before the slider it way too large to fit the recess for the nut. In other word i got some combersome paperweights.

I had some great customer service with T-Rex - Ask them for a return and refund.

That being said, it takes nothing to total a Monster - that tank is worth ~$1600, and the stock exhaust is borderline ridiculous in what they 'cost'. And the damage only has to be around 60-70% of the bikes value, depending on your insurer, to be 'totaled'.

I can echo the easy to total.  I had a rather minor lowside and the insurance wanted to total out at $3800.  I pushed back and they upped the market value and fixed it.

My tank was around $2300, the stock cans are $800 per side.  The rest was pretty minor handlebar/gear shifter stuff.  A couple hundred for frame/bar/axle sliders seems like cheap insurance compared to the hassle of fixing your bike.  Even a minor tip over can end up costing more than the sliders.

I got the motovation sliders yesterday. I did not install them yet, but I placed the slider to see how it would stick out and they seem short to me. My radiator is at about the same length sticking out to the sides. It looks like it would not protect the radiator because of this.. Before I install them I wanted to know if the cyclecats are longer and if they are available to buy.

I have no FHE with the motovation sliders. So I'm not able to give you any comparo info.

A thread on the old forum discussed an opinion that frame sliders on a Monster are a mistake.  If she goes down w/o sliders you'll wreck a gear/clutch case and some bar end stuff (..maybe more, of course).  You can spend moderate $$ and replace these items.  However, if she takes a dump with sliders affixed, the frame will likely bend, perhaps rendering the bike useless, except for the spare parts listing on eBay.

I thought the sliders were supposed to make your bike slide and prop the parts away from the road...  I think given the construction of most sliders that I've looked at, it seems that if the slider snags and can't slide, the plastic 'puck' will rip off before the frame is bent, if only because the plastic is softer.

The only accident I've been in did not have a slider, so I am only speculating...

they stick way the make the beast with two backs out. you can even use 'em for highway pegs  cheeky

they're long enough to have kept my stock bars/lever/mirror from anything significant at a slide ~25mph. and yes, the bike will slide on them...

crappy pic, but it's the only one I have online of mine (red girly bike in front):

are you referring to the cycle cats?

I looked at the ones for sale but they state that now they have shorter sliders to make them look better.. but less protection..  bang head

Speedymoto Sliders are 3'' long and Motovation sliders are 3.5'' long.

Lots of diverse opinions on this topic.  I've got a par of Puigs on an S4R.  They stick out about 4-5/8 from the frame boss.  They are about 1/2 aluminum 1/2 plastic, nylon or Delrin.  They look like they'd shear off if the forces get high enought to tweak the frame.    Personally I think they should shear off in the event of a high speed crash.   I got them mainly for rolling or stationary dink overs, ya know deductble stuff.  They look like they'd protect the motor bits pretty good.   Its questionable how well they would protect the radiator though, depending on the attidude of the bike during a crash.   The other thing to think about is how much blunt trama injury they could cause duing a low side. Ya never know where ya might wind up?

I have Cycle Cat sliders that came on the bike when I bought it.  They are definitely ugly and bulbous and I was thinking about getting something less obtrusive (like Speedymoto). However, I think after reading this thread I will stick with my ugly CC sliders.  From those who *know*, they say they work.  And that's the point.

And I went and measured mine:
Cycle Cat sliders = 5.5 inches from frame to slider tip

I've got speedymoto's on my little beauty and they saved me a make the beast with two backsing hassle when I dropped my bike the other day, no nada, I would be been bondoing and painting my tank sans sliders. I think that the flared head is interesting and the quality of parts and over all craft were above standard. I am pleased with my purchase no doubt.

what about making this a poll
