Hey, I am no good at searching the web, so I just figured it'd be easier to ask it here: Does anyone have any idea if/when/what the new bikes are? Are they going to make a new lower end superbike that is based off the panigale monocoque body? When will the 848/1098/1198s stop production and the new bikes start to roll out? I like the panigale body a lot, but at this juncture buying a 20G bike is a little far fetched for me so I am just wondering so that i can maybe plan a move in the next year...
thanks guys

My bet is that there will be a SF1198 rather than a SF1199 next year.  The SF progression always seems to be 1 generation behind the current sbk and since they are already making the 1198 for the other lines, it's a simple drop in replacement.

And if I were really looking for a 848 at this point I would just pick up a used one... the 848 replacement is probably going to come out pretty soon and paying full retail for one right now will probably see a early drop in value.

That being said... this years Ducati winter test colors for the 848 is hot as hell.

The 848 SE would be the only one I would look at, but it would be a keeper not a short term purchase. only for the nostalgic, last of a generation type bike

it's THE last trellis framed superbike from the 851 loins.

sorry for such late reply...
yeah i mean im confused because im going to have to wait and see prices. Right now, with my monster, i could easily make the move on an 848 with some money saved up. but, i dont want something thats going to be too dated looking because the new bikes are a lot "sharper" i would say, or at least the panigale is, so if  they were going to follow that lineage which i would think there going to do then it would make the 848evo ehh look a tad bit "bulby" in the front. But the otehr advantage would be going to the dealer, knowing a new bike going to take the 848's place is coming and leverage him down quite a bit...Still confused on what i should be aiming for Undecided Undecided Undecided Undecided Undecided Undecided Undecided

I wouldn't be hoping too much to leverage a dealer down on an 848. That bike sells pretty well  and the last of their kind should be pretty desirable.  I think anyone who could have snatched up an 1198SP, and didn't, lost out.

.. At least not until the next gen middleweight comes out. Once a new smaller displacement version based on the 1199 then you might have some leverage. Might. But until then not likely.

Don't expect any deal on a new Ducati until the next years model is sitting in the dealership floor next to it.

I'm as hesitant as you, I've been ready to buy a new bike for the past 2 years and can't seem to make up my mind on which one to buy.   Undecided

Im curious if the Audi engineers will find major flaws with the new superbike frame design, needing to heavily change, or scrap it altogether and start fresh. maybe some discounted panigales in the future or model carry overs until the engineering is updated?

Ducati lists a Streetfighter S for 2013 (for USA).  This is the 1098 version.

Anything is possible, but I doubt it.

Don't confuse the MotoGP bike problems with the 1199. Sure, the 1199 design is based on GP testing, but it's a much different bike, and the reasons the GP bike struggled don't translate to the street version or WSBK.

I read recently Checa saying he didn't like the panigale, and the front end felt vague. Similar to what the motoGp guys were saying.

I heard that rumor as well, but have never seen a source. I also believe it was an earlier 1199 version (if the rumor is true...I can't find anything). They may have tweaked the design a bit due to his input.

Regardless, Checa may not have liked it before, but he still signed on with Ducati for WSBK...so it must not be that bad. Bayliss also thought it was pretty good. Time will tell.

Not to mention the fact that the conditions where Checa allegedly said it was "vague" might never be experienced by a street rider. Our street bikes are not the WSBK bike and definitely not MotoGP.
