It's not my brain that's getting fried here!

« on: November 17, 2012, 06:50:00 PM »

Seems like the technical posts on the local board are scattered everywhere in the other threads but it seems like there's enough to float a new topic.

I'm trying to change the windscreen on the Matrix but I'm totally stumped on the fasteners.  There seems to be a tiny hex in there when I look through the GF's super reading glasses but none of my Allen set fits it and nothing in my precision screw set fits.

Anybody know exactly WTF these things are?  And where I can get a driver locally that fits?

They are Torx head screws. T5 or T6?? I don't recall exactly but I have a set of those at work. The really small ones like you need are commonly part of electrical fastener tool kits. You might be able to buy one separately but I bought mine as part of a set. Almost like jeweler screw drivers with the pivot handle. There are threads in the super bike forums that talk about the exact size.

Thanks.  I tried the little torx in my precision screw set earlier but nothing grabbed a purchase.

I'll try them again on a couple other fasteners.

That would be a T7.  Not a common size in a precision screw set but the sears man had em on the shelf individually. Thanks for the point in the right direction Mac.

Putting a dark smoke wind screen on the dark green matrix looks waaaay better than I ever hoped for.  A nice touch of bling on an otherwise un-blingy machine!

I'm debating wether I should pick up a Termi kit on my 696... It's expensive, but theres a Black Friday sale so I can save about $230... but it costs sooo much x_x It's sweet, but is it worth it?  Huh?

Shiny!
Is that a slip-on or full system?
