"That's not a silly walk. THIS is a silly walk!"

Howdy to all on this "new and corporate-free" board, glad to see it up and running so quick-like... wt:

I have a short film in the Santa Cruz Film Festival next week, and I'm thinking about taking my Monster up instead of the cage. It'd be my first long trip on the bike (i mostly canyon ride), and would like to stay off the slab as much as possible.

I'm told there are some great "blue highways" heading up north that offer great scenery and fun twisties, but I'm not sure of the route. Anybody here done this trip before (or gone to Monterey, which is fairly close to Santa Cruz)? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Topangster

(Btw - Any Ducatistis in the Bay Area are welcome to come check out my film, THE COLONY, it screens at 2:00 PM on May 13th. santacruzfilmfestival.com has all the details.  Or you can check it out on my website, stevenjlist.com.)

Stick to the coast.  Post up in the SF MOB group, several members there have done it.

Take PCH from Cambria to Carmel...you won't regret it!  One of the top 10 roads of USA!

Check out 229 on the way up near Paso Robles (off 101/1)

Tepuesquet road off 166 is fun too... it's more of a sidetrack then a route up though.. but it's off 101 and 166

Yep, PCH is the way to go. From Cambria to Carmel Valley it is magic.

Speeddog's route is also excellent.

Another nice break from 101 is the Ft. Hunter Ligget/Jolon Rd. bypass.

Plus, if you're in the area, you owe yourself a ride up Hwy 9 up the Santa Cruz mountains.

Totally. I'd take Rte 1 if you've got the time.
No motorcycles on 17 mile drive though (it's private).  Undecided

Last but not least, if you're around at the end of the month, specifically the last Thursday, head up to SF and have a beer with the locals at Zeitgeist. Check out the SF board for details.
