Classic look with moderen performance - I've ridden the old CB500's & 750's back in the day - they were rockets - exhaust PCIII & airbox mod and you will be over 100HP I'm sure - with Honda's pricing you should be able to pick one up for $8.5-9K after they've been out for awhile - Triumphs don't deal as much so bascially it is in that ballpark under $10K.

Memory is a funny thing and speed perception is all relative.  I've ridden a few CB550's and the word "rocket" never came to mind.

I think the price objections are based on the concept of a lightly updated late 70's bike for $10k.

Irrelevant. That doesn't make it either cheaper to produce or worth less relatively speaking in the market place.

Wrong, very relevant to me and the market I predict will drive the prices down quickly.   My 3 pennies.

When I was a little kid (like 13..14yo) my brother had a Moto Morini 3 1/2 and an Honda CB750.
My favorite part of the summer days was the night, when my brother would leave to go out in night clubs, and I was stealing his bikes for nightly rides  Grin
I know it was double the cc, but the CB750 felt like a friggen rocket to me  Dolph

The MARKET MAY drive the price down. But if it does I suspect it's more the result of the trend of devaluation of Japanese cycles than it is the bike itself or the genre. But that doesn't mean this isn't a fair MSRP.

Just look at the other bikes in the segment (pretty much US or Euro brands) they hold their MSRPs very well and are priced similarly (and one can be argued in most of their cases they are also "lightly updated late 70's" bikes).

bonneville is a better looking bike, but there are WAY too many of them on the road. at least here in manhattan. thruxton is cooler. but this bike is pretty sweet with more power and uniqueness. wonder how many honda will sell...  coffee

Here is a thread with some impressions of the Griso.
http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=58529.0

My Griso is currently my favorite bike to ride. Last weekend I had the opportunity to ride the Streetfighter 848 and a Diavel on a long unsupervised test ride.  I was blown away by how good those bikes are.  I was a little worried that on the ride home I'd be disappointed in the Griso because of how awesome the Streetfighter handles and how awesome the Diavel accelerates. No worries. My Griso still shines even in comparison to those two awesome bikes.  It is a different bike with a different feel. It is quick. Not as blindly fast as either of those two Ducatis, but the acceleration of the Griso 8V is very satisfying.  There is a nice quality to its acceleration that I like.  It is very stable in the corners.

Meh, not a fan of 30yo bikes, if I actually plan to ride it daily.

Get rid of the queen sized mattress above the rear wheels and cafe the hell out of it.  GSXR front end, get rid of all the chrome and chop the tail.  Then we're talking.
