Low mileage bikes have different issues than high mileage bikes, but age hits them all.  Just ride!

Nothing powered by internal combustion is really a good investment except for the enjoyment you get out of it.

Long-distance riders tend not to buy them.

Maybe it is because the tank holds very little fuel. (When new, anyway.  laughingdp )

yeah, the S4Rs has a smaller tank capacity than other monsters and the biggest engine. So you'd be stopping more often for gas. But otherwise i'll do fine.

I got used to the stops and they just become part of the ride, although it does annoy a few partners with bigger tanks.  And you meet a lot of neat people at gas stations. laughingdp

Yep, the ride is worth it to me..........

Me too.

Sad thing is tho, now that I have a custom touring seat for the bike it is showing itself to be a superb light sport-tourer (well, apart from the difficulty of attaching luggage  Roll Eyes) - really comfy and with the engine always so entertaining.

If I keep the bike forever I would love to one day get an aluminium or kevlar endurance tank made up that held 20 L or so instead of the stock 12.6 (measured  Sad ). It could look much the same - the construction of the plastic version wastes a lot of capacity. Would feel great to be more relaxed about range, and the bike so deserves it.

Maybe Ducatiz's project holds part of the answer.

Tell us more about the seat, got a pic?   Have you looked and found someone to make you a tank?

Don't have anything that shows the seating area specifically, but this could give you an idea:

Done by a custom builder I found, who unfortunately was about to shut up shop. This was one of his last efforts.

This one won't fit the stock cowl. I wanted the two-up capacity. Also, having the flat surface behind the rider helps a lot with carrying stuff on a trip.

There seems to be a heap of custom seat builders in the US, so you should have no trouble getting one done.

I asked for the seating surface to be a half-inch taller than stock. Relieves the knee bend just enough to eliminate need to stretch between fills (I'm 6ft).

Should mention that the Cogent Dynamics shock revalve helps a lot on the distance comfort side, too (see my sig line).

There are places that will do custom aluminium tanks - e.g. Beater in Japan - but the price is very high (understandably) and they need a tank to model from. The Cal Cycle Works plastic version in the works sounds like it won't be much bigger than stock, but certainly a good price.

Member ducatiz is working on setting up a production run for an aluminium version. Not sure of the final capacity nor whether it will fit an S4Rs (which has a different fuel pump flange from the S2R/pre-testa S4R, among other possible distinctions) but sounds like he is doing his best to accommodate all needs. Thread begins here.

Yeah, but I'll take half a gallon.  I also carry two 1 liter fuel bottles in those wolfman strappy carrier things.  They attach to the trellis pretty neatly.

I contacted Cycleworks and they got back with the plastic only at this time.   Comeonnnnnnn ducatiz, you be the man, the hope!

No local custom tanks/seats and I cannot see sending off my tank or seat across country to someone that I have no say with or can give no personal input to about the job.  That extra half gallon means a lot to me but I can wait.

Moronic : That is a comfy looking seat.

If you make the tank bigger, it gets ugly.
