TAILGUNNER/JULIAN,
I have to work both sat. and sun.....Got to make the  bacon some how. So a Gasket change is out of the question. I could still get together on sat or sun afternoon to do a jetting job though. IF you guy's don't have time that will be fine I do have a Haynes manuel and Internet to show me the Basic's. PM me if you are still interested. I will bring some beer over, chug That beer could be for anyone of you who has experince working on carbs and perferably who has the right tools to do so. Wink Wink Wink.

I see that Bacon was added, why don't we have an icon of (*)(*)ies

I would definitely help you but I'm not a carb tech  Undecided More or less I just get after something and if I can't figure it out I take it to Cheshire.

dont do what i did, break off a jet inside the carb.....

the jets i was working on were made out of soft brass, it was in there pretty good and i twisted it and pop!  quite a sick feeling to know you just broke a jet off like that....only way i got it out was to take it to a friends who had these special bits that drilled into it so we could back it out.

what is wrong with your bike again? i mean how is it running bad so your putting in different jets?  I dont know anything about these carbs, i use to work on an old CB750 which had 4 carbs on it so i always had to dicker with it. I am pretty good at diagnosing bike running rich/lean problems and carbs.

Are you sure its a jetting issue? Whats the symptoms?

Bike: 01 M750, open Air box, highmount arrow exhuast. I will not know until I take the carbs off if it has been jetted before. I have cleaned the carbs out, most recently in feburary, fuel filter change at the same time. The Bike has 16,000 miles on it now. 12,000 when I got it in sept. last year. Not sure when the last time a valve clearance was done and I should do that this weekend.  waytogo
I'm pretty sure it is the carbs. You can smell the fuel if you ride behind me. The Spark plugs tell the damage and I'm only making 33mpg. Overall it runs well, always starts up  good in the mornings, with the choke of course. runs well during the morning with the cold air on the oil cooler. I have a 45 minute ride into work everyday over corneliuis pass and up to st. helens, OR and seems to do fine. Usally in the afternoon, once the engine warms up and only in 3-4000 rpm range I get a lot of backfiring, sluggish accel, just no power, i'm guess that to much fuel is being thrown into the cylinder. As soon as I hit 4000 RPM I'm in good condintion. I'm not a carb man, never dealt with carbs before this bike. But I have been sucessful on all other maintence for the bike. So my hope's are high. I would faint if that happened to me. Knock on wood. bang head

so its running rich, i dont know how the ducati carbs work but is there any air/fuel mixture screws to adjust on them? If you havent checked that you might try that first before messing with the jets. Also do they have float bowls on them? Sometimes they get stuck, and the bowls fill up with gas. i had a bike running just like you describe, it would run great in the morning but when it warmed up it would backfire under deceleration, sputter and spit under certain RPM, run sluggish ect. It wasnt the jets, we had to pull that needle out of the carb, the long one that runs down the center and adjust the clip up one notch i beleve if that makes any sense. Someone basically put a 4 into 1 exaust on the bike without adjusting anything on the carb.

Also if i pulled the air filter off the bike, it ran like a top even when it was warm. Gained alot of power as well. That told me the carb was not getting enough air, you can try that as well pull it off and run it around the block, if that takes care of the problem then its not the jets. I dont know a few things to try.

I will try that before I Start installing the kit. Hopfully I might not need to use the kit and be able to take it back. I'll get back to you on how it works.

look at this thread, its from a different forum but its the same problem as yours, alot of great suggestions from some people that dealt with 4 carbs on thier bikes instead of one, so they knew what they were talking about. Same issue you are having....

Good info but now I feel as if I have know clue what i'm doning. Undecided. Well I'm goning to try the simplistic diagnostisc and see what the changing the the setting on the needle will do be before  start tearing everything apart.

its good to have a firm base to build on, first make sure your tune up has been done and everything is in spec, then check out the filter thing, make sure the idle adjust screws are right if you have them. then if all esle fails tear apart the carb.

I am 39.... 78 was the year of my bike
