Remove End Plugs on Handlebars

Sounds like a stupid question ......... how do I get the standard factory end plugs out of my handle bars ?
(they seem to be stuck fast with no screw/key to remove)

Champion ...... worked like a treat - just clamp on with the multi-grips and pull them out (was too worried about wrecking something)
