anyone have any first hand experience? there appear to be 3 models.

ROAM (base model, older?)
ROAM2 (updated base model?)
Contour+ (top end..)

i'm really mostly interested in what the differences between the three models mean in terms of user experience / results.

also, i'm pretty much committed to the brand, so switching to the gopro isnt really an option.

thanks for the input waytogo

Those must be new models.  I have a Contour, but it's older.  Might be the older ROAM.  It works just fine and is easy to use.  Big slider switch on top for easy Recording even with gloves on.

I just received the Roam (gen 1) for Christmas. Nothing to report yet, but already wish it was a + so I could see the image prior to recording.

ContourGPS.

Not all that impressed with GPS feature.  Only works 1/2 the time, and at times as much at 100 yds off.

I do like the nearly unlimited mounting options.

Android app view finder and remote on/off is cool.

Build quality is impressive.  Even heard of them falling off (when improperly mounted) speed and surviving.

I have the original ROAM.

I love it.

VERY easy to use.  You have a big slider ON/OFF switch.  Super easy.

The new Roam2 would be my choice.

Check out their web site for details on each and to help you choose which one will fit your needs.

I like the ROAM because it is waterproof without a case, is easy to use, priced right, and I like the form factor.

Good Luck!

I'm pretty sure my buddy has been using a contour for his autocross runs/ track days.  No sure what model though.  Here's a vid.

Side note, apparently he's compared this camera to my dad's Go Pro 2 and the image quality is similar aside from the GP having better low light functionality.  Bigger aperture perhaps.

I have the ROAM, think its the newer model.. 1080p, 170 degree wide angle lens. Nice video quality, easy operation.
I have a 32gb card in it and a charging hookup from the bike. The only thing I don't like is that it does not record when charging. Or put another way, if you have the charging cord plugged in and then slide the record switch, it won't record. But, if you slide the record switch ON first then plug the charging cord, it continues to record and charge.
