Just curious on a Monday morn...
Are you a member of the AMA?
If so, why? If not, why?

I am (have been for 16 years, just got a new pin)Joined because I had to to get into USCRA events @ NHIS. I keep it because I get a break on my insurance and they do work on issues that matter to me as a biker on the legal end.

I'm not a member, and I've never really thought about it. Obviously if there is a compelling reason to be a member then they have not done a very good job of communicating that to me. Maybe one of you can enlighten me.

I'm a member, and probably always willbe. They do a lot for motorcyclists, and their roadside assistance program kicks ass and is cheap. That alone is worth the price IMO.

I am in the same boat. They have done much to get me to join. In fact one of the things they did, breaking off all ties with AHMRA is not a good way to show solidarity among motorcyclists. I am not sure This is an organization I want to be part of...

Discounts on insurance and the roadside assistance for all my vehicles is my primary reason.

I am. I think this is my 4th year? 3rd year? I'll let you know when I get my pin.
I do it for the roadside assistance and because they are one of the few national moto- lobbyists, as well as help with state/local level issues. Plus they give discounts to some vendors and hotels (icing on the cake).

I won't bother copy/pasting the whole list, but this might help you decide (there's also a dirt and race 'why', but I don't know your situation so I guessed):

I became a Lifetime Charter member this year, which means I have been with the AMA for 25 years.
I like them because they are an advocate for motorcyclists and their rights, providing a common voice for all the members. I don't always agree with them (although I disagree less with the AMA than the NRA!), but I don't mind funding their efforts. The magazine is sometimes pretty good as well.
Too many times our rights and our interests get bull-dozed by special interests or zealots. The AMA helps deal with them.
