2009 696 - removing the windscreen?
«
on:
February 21, 2013, 03:56:25 AM »
I have a 2009 696 and I was interested in removing the windscreen to have the front end more bare with just the back of the instrument panel, as I have seen many other people do. However, when I removed the windscreen, it appears to be all one solid piece along with the rear cover for the panel. Once it's off I see the back of the instrument panel, all the wires and all.
I was hoping to simply remove the windscreen and achieve this result, as I have seen on many other bikes:
But that does not appear to be possible? Am I missing something here? Is this a quirk for 2009 model year that was changed in other years? Or is everybody going and buying an additional instrument panel rear cover?
I forgot to take pics when I pulled mine off to show you guys, but hopefully my description is vivid enough.
Thoughts?

When purchased new, the dealer is supposed to give you the back cover piece and 2 screws.
sounds like you got one screw and no back cover piece

Raux, here in the states (I don't know where the OP is from) the cover and screws did not come with bike until '10 or '11. In '09 for sure the bike shipped with the windshield and nothing else.

Thanks guys. I'm not the original owner of the bike, so I guess the purchaser either didn't get it, lost it, or just didn't bother to give it to me with the sale. Maybe I'll email him and ask, otherwise I'll go to the dealer and see what I can drum up.

likely
when i picked up my bike, i had ordered the comfort seat prepickup. they tried to deliver the bike with the new seat on and slyly keep the original.
i was like, where is my OEM> they said> oh you want that, yes, sure we can get that...

.... I'm not in the US, but thats the first I've heard of that. Sounds like dealer mis-speak to me.
Nice CF ones available from our sponsor Jeff at Monsterparts >>

Thanks for all the info guys, I'm just going with the stock cover. I'm not into carbon fiber at all. I'd probably only put it on my bike if it was painted. I visited the dealer today and they didn't have any in stock but I ordered one for only 11 bucks, problem solved.
Thanks!

Yep, already got those. They sit in wait until the cover arrives whenever it does.

Do you have the little plastic washers to fill in the space left when you remove your pinion cover and replace the decorative screws? Some have had those little washers/spacers missing also.

That part i'm not sure what you're talking about. I'll have to wait till I get the cover in and do the swap to see if it seems like something is missing.
