The older carbd ss tanks were square-ish and haf that bump near the vent line yes?

Yes.
They also used an in tank electric pump.

Also, the early SS tanks can be converted to run a high pressure pump (fuel injection...)

Good to know but mines carbd. I'm just wracking my brain about what to do with my tank. It's too wide and too humped. I figure why not try an old ss tank? Square-ish in shape, higher up in the chest area and fairly flat on top. It probably won't bolt right up but I just got a job at a bike fab shop so no issues making it fit.
Any other cool "old looking" tanks that might work?

851/888 frames had a similar style, IE tube straight from the rear motor mount to the steering head, so they're going to line up better.
Still going to be a heap of work.

Im actually not concerned with that line. I like the gap as seen on Radical bikes if thats what you mean.
I just care about the front and rear mounting and less about making it look like a factory creation.

The hinge set up is similar, so that should be fairly easy.
Not sure about the width of the bumpers/frame of the SS
