I ordered the Zard cans for my bike and am doing the air filter and ECU flash at Motowheels.  It will take a little over a month to get the exhaust in and I realized that the factory shroud is gonna look kinda silly.  I ordered the Euro spec version.

I am also looking at the Speedymoto belt covers (black on black) and am curious if the stock covers can be removed without removing the engine?  It looks awful tight in there.  Also curious if there is any downside to running the belts "open".  I miss the mechanical aspect of the dry clutch on my Evo but love the quiet and the smoothness.

My current mods: (does not even have a license plate yet)

Rizoma tail tidy
Rizoma frame plugs
Oberon bar end signals
Shortened front signals  (never hurts to have two front signals)
MotoDynamics signal integrated tail light
Removed rear signals
MW folding levers
Zard cans (soon)
ECU reflash (soon)

I am trying to get this thing "finished" soon as it is the first bike I have ever had that I can do everything I want in the first couple months of ownership.  Thing is like a giant RC car to me and just like my RC car I have a ton of fun just building it.  Riding it does not suck either.  Despite it still being winter I have put on 1000 miles in a month.  I don't ride it for anything but fun.

Which bike do you have?

I added CF belt covers to my 696 and the fit was tight, but can be done as the covers are in two pieces. If wasn't for the high price, I would have added the Speedy moto covers as well, they look cool.

Whoa, yes, absoloutely they can. I'd hate to see the cost of a service if replacing the timing belt meant removing the engine!

As was mentioned, they come in 2 pieces. Depending what bike you have, you will have some wires, maybe oil cooler lines, running over it but those can be disconnected to make it easier. Just take a couple of minutes to make sure you get it in there without scratching. Shouldn't take you more than 5 mins Smiley

Thanks guys!  It does look awful tight but it is encouraging to know it is doable.  The SM covers are gorgeous.  I have a red n white 2013 Evo and with the color scheme I am going to go with black covers and black centers.  It will be subtle ( :

I am going to have to get Motowheels on direct deposit.......

I'm more curious as to any downsides to running no belt covers?  Anyone going 'naked' without issue?

Catching some debris (i.e. a rock) in the belt, throwing the timing off, causing the piston to get up close and personal with the valve.

That said, it's very rare. I can only think of one occurence on this board. FWIW, it is recommended that Ducati race bikes run without belt covers for cooling reasons, so they're not too concerned about it.

Thanks Triple,  Hopefully the Speedymoto covers will prevent that from happening.  They seem to have pretty good coverage but I am going to consider other options as well.  I would cry if I did damage to a piston.  More research!

Race bikes (usually) have fairings on though.

But as noted, it's not like it's a common event

You might have time to save enough coin. I called them yesterday and was informed that they still do not have covers to fit the 1100 EVO. The sales rep said they hoped to have them in a few months.

Oh that's sad!  I was just about to call them myself.  I suppose one good thing about a 2013 is that there is not all that much I can spend money on right now lol.

There is a video of my bike with the speedymoto covers on them. The service guy at my Duc shop told me when I was asking about the dangers of running open belts that if a rock, stick, or something else(your pants) gets caught in them it will basically ruin the engine. That being said, 99% of Harleys and other bikes running "open primaries" or exposed belts do not have problems with them. The look is bad ass and I'm glad I bought them

for the newer monster you have to put the vertical cyl cover on coming in from the top.
