Guys,
I have seen and heard various slipons fitted on Ducati Monster 796s. After some research I zeroed in on Vance and Hines CS One Black. I had my first ride today - 200 Kms. The bike ran fabulously well. The sound is an unbelievably throaty deep grunt, that no one can miss on the road. You just cant record this sound and replay it. You have to hear it in person to enjoy it. The bike sounds so good that I feel like riding more now, than ever before. I feel an adrenaline rush when I ride with these slipons now.
When I accelerate or decelerate the bike, the sound is simply superb. But clearly, the decibel levels are probably illegal on the streets in Europe. I guess it will be legal in USA, when you consider the racket Harley Davidson's make!
My bike looks so much more sportier now. I was fearful of overheating, because I thought the slipon will lead to lean fuel mixture and engine overheating. But funnily enough, the bike was running cooler than with stock exhausts! And I felt more power on the throttle (may be because of the sound?), but whatever it was, I am one happy monster rider now.
And no, I did not add a fuel manager like power commander or a high flow air filter.

But the deceleration pops are much more now in frequency and loudness - a little scary actually sometimes. Can someone help me understand what causes these pops? Also, will it affect my engine or reduce it's life? How can I reduce the frequency and intensity of these pops? Not that I am in a hurry to fix this, simply enjoying the new sound and look for now, but eventually would like to fix these pops.
Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Pops = running lean

also, don't forget to include pics of your bike+exhaust or as we say around here, it didn't happen    Grin

Or an exhaust leak.

That too, but, if he opened up the rear and the ECU doesn't know it has to inject more fuel . . .

So, let's do what we can on the home front:

check all pipe connections, get some exhaust paste and dab some on pipe joints, re-tighten everything and for ride and hear for pops . .. report back, . . .

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I will follow your advice and report back what happened. The cheapest option is the exhaust paste, and I will try that first. Then I will go the bazzaz route.

But first of all, as everyone says "Pictures First"! I will put them up in a day or two!

I would examine other options, it is my knowledge that bazzaz, pcv and few others are "after" ecu devices, remember, you have two different cylinders with different air/fuel ratio needs, try Rexxer, give them a call or write . ..

the PCV can be mapped for two different cylinders

It just now hit me, your bike has O2 sensors, so, the ECU must compensate and enrich the mixture, now, did you replace the air filter as well*? The CO measurement coming from the pipes should be somewhere around 3.5%~4.0% at idle and around that same amount at about 4500RPM . . . If this is not happening, then it is time for you to consider some form of tuning to add more fuel to your mixture.

Many options out there . . .

*The 'regular' ECU wont compensate for that much amount of extra air coming in and being let out . . . The DP ECU will . . .

Hey Carlos,
no, I did not replace the air filter, even though I have a new K & N simply lying my garage.
by the way, I cant use exhaust paste, because then I cant remove the pipes whenever I want for replacing them with stock pipes (to send bike for service)
Any other options to seal the pipe gaps? Remember, I live in India. Not everything is available here off the shelf!
Thanks for your prompt help....

why would you need to remove the pipes for service?

Do you have exhaust leaks? Do you feel them? If there are gaps in the junctions, loosen them up and try to 'push' the connecting pipes a bit more inwards and then tighten the collars so that no leaks are 'felt'; these leaks, if there are, might be tricking the ECU into thinking the mix is OK.

If you can't get to an exhaust gas analyzer, for the time being, do not install the K&N filter, it might "lean out" the AFR even more.

Where exactly in India are you?
