I may go that direction eventually,  although I do not want to sit any higher or I will end up having to add bar risers.  The last ride in full leathers the stock seat was not unbearable.  I am about to spend some serious suspension cash and with any luck the improved ride will help with getting ass bashed.

Currently I can ride all day on the Monster but changing my bodies lean angle will change that due to previous injuries.

You can use the riser off a 796 if necessary. No issues. I'm 5' 8" and preferred the Rizoma bar with some sweep and a better wrist angle. The alu color version looks stock too, only better.

maybe you need to start sitting back on the seat a bit and use your thighs to grab the tank.

Me knees be squeezed until displeased.
Then my balls hit the walls and out of my mouth come squalls.

Eventually I will either get used to the thing or I will buy a Sargent and change the bar rise if needed.  I had Sargent seats on several other bikes so I already know what to expect.  I keep hoping it will only take another 100 miles or so for the stocker to break in.   chug

FWIW, the tech spec pads for your bike work really well for me at low speed and I'd have a hard time at low speeds without them. http://gallery.leica-users.org/d/282951-1/Rt_-Above.jpg Several sponsors here sell them.

Skybarney - Sounds like the one you originally ordered was for the older Monsters [96787702B].  The one you tried is the Ducati Monster Custom Seat, 96766909B, which is a consensus that it is a bad seat.   What you need is the Ducati Monster Low Rider Seat, 96776009B, which is the equivalent to the original Monster Comfort seat [96787702B] and it is consensus that it is the good version.   If the dealer messed up the order, they should help you fix the order.

Tis nothing like the picture ( :   The dealer has been and is pretty darn great, I just hate returning stuff and due to almost everything coming via mail order I have already made a few returns.  They have been great about it, but damn I start to feel guilty.

I amd going to show them the picture of the seat I thought I had ordered though and see what they have to say.  Silly is that the dealer is on the other side of town and I dislike driving across town to Roseville in a car or a truck and I can't take the seat on the bike, I end up putting it off.  It is a byproduct of living where I do.

2011 Monster 796 ABS

School me on the seat situation for the new gen monsters please!

The stock 796 seat is supposedly an improvement on the 696 and original 1100 seat correct?  Flatter and more comfortable as to reduce nut smash from what I've read.  So coming from a stock 696/1100 seat to a DP comfort seat is a decent improvement, but coming from a 796 or 1100evo (same seat as 796 I'm assuming?) is a very small improvement, if at all? Is this the consensus?

My 796 has the stock seat and is reasonably comfortable but ball smash is still an issue...especially with clipons.  Is the DP seat a worthy upgrade coming from the already 'improved' 796 seat?

Four seats that I know of
model - rise - angle
696/1100 - middle - steep
796/1100 evo - lower - flatter
DP Low - lowest - flattest
DP Comfort - tall - flatter

Just pulled out the catalog, it is NOT the seat I ordered.  I ordered Part number 96787702B   They sent the 96766909B  The one I ordered has a raised lip to prevent nut slams.  The one I got is for "improved ergonomics".  Dealer miscommunication.  I will let them know tomorrow and get the right seat sent out.

The comfort seat is to tall.  It does not feel as secure when riding as the stocker, maybe too flat as well.  It still put my nuts into the tank and the seat surface is kinda slick.  I knew there were other options (Sargent) but I had to give the inexpensive option a try first.  I can't even feel where the back of the seat is and can slide all the way back into the cowl.  Being taller it also puts me in a more forward riding position and more weight on my wrists.  Were I to keep it I would need taller bars or risers to be comfy.

Heya Barney,

I think I understand. I purchased the DP "performance" seat, which *lowers* you butt about an inch (probably 2 CM in Ducati-speak) and changes the fabric. The first one was felt covered. Good looking but it wore down. Ducati, bless their pointy little heads, replaced it. The fabric is very grippy - if you like moving from side to side in the corners you will become frustrated. I prefer the Mike Hailwood approach to riding position: stick you butt on it and stay there as long as you can!  Smiley

I love this seat, the only caveat being it will bend your legs quite a bit more. I am 6'1", but that is a 6'3" torso on top of 5'11" legs so it fits me fine. I will get hip pointers if I don't move around a bit once in while, but other than that the feeling of sitting "in" the bike versus on top of it is much nicer.
