Ok, I kmow I enquired about this a couple of years ago! But riding without the RED key is like playing with a hand grenade with a loose pin! You just dont know when its going to go off, and in this case I'll have a bike that is locked/shutdown/immobilised/wont go!! So, has anything changed regarding ECU reflashing regarding the ECU from my model Monster?? (M1000DS 2003) Has someone worked out a way to do it?? And , what is available in the aftermarket area! Any new/improved systems about! I remember there were a couple previously but a couple of them were less than satisfactory from all reports!? (Including the people selling them? ) I am finally catching up with finances after the marriage going belly up and I'm going to attempt to bring the Monsters up to scratch a bit! So any info will be helpful! Cheers

Is this an existing problem with your bike, or is it premature speculation?

premature speculation? Hmmmm!! Like that!! When the marriage turned to shit I put all the keys in a "SAFE" place so someone didnt take them!! Aaaand when I was moving house I lost ALL the keys to 2 bikes and the car!! The car was bad enough ($280) to replace! The old M750 was a piece of piss but the DS is another matter! Cant even program a spare without the RED! When I enquired a few years back It was suggested that the best way to go was to replace the ECU with an aftermarket one which would also give me infinite tuneablitiy as compared tyo the stocker and I wouldnt have to worry about the immobiliser system having a fit and locking me out!! Now I'm a bit more financial I am looking at solving a potential problem BEFORE it happens! If I lose the current black key I'm screwed, the bike stays in the garage holding up a blanket!!

Here in the states, there's an outfit you could send your key and gauges to, and they'd send 'em back with a red key and another black.
Or you could get your ECU reflashed and Immo disabled.
I suspect there's folks relatively close to you that can do either service.

ah i just read you have 1 black
there is locksmiths that can clone your black key so no reprogramming needed

the locksmith in Oakleigh told me they can clone keys. not had one done yet tho.
reflashing with immo disabled is easy. key is cheaper.

Oh you reflash! Cool. So no need to send the ecu all the way to the states.
Any chance of putting a DP 695 map (open loop, slipons, immobiliser disabled) an an S4R ecu I have kicking around...

695 is a 5am ecu. if the s4r ecu is a 5am then yes. s4r also came with 59m, in which case no.

The mob in Sydney can supply a "RED" master key as well as doing the standard "Black" (No pun intended! ) As well as "imobilising" the Imobiliser! Quoted $600 for the keys and the neutralising of the imobiliser!? All they need is the dash! Your opinion?? PM if ethics preclude a public opinion??

Sorry to hijack, but what exactly does the red key do and why is it such a big deal to lose it?
I still have mine and the dealer told me not to lose it, but I don't really understand what it does or why it is so important not to lose it.

as above , red key is needed to program in new black keys if you lose them

And to unlock immobilser if it engages!! Otherwise you have an expensive "Clothes Rack"! Thats probably the main reason for having the RED! As well as you will lose money off a resale or trade in price without it!! I personally would have reservations about buying a bike without the Red key and a functional Immobiliser! I would want VERY GOOD proof of ownership and a lot of $$$ knocked off the price for fixing the problem!
