Ohlins TTX 36 rear damper?
«
on:
May 13, 2013, 08:08:41 AM »
Anyone running this rear damper on a new gen Monster?
I noticed it from this old thread -->
http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=28129.0
This is the only external reservoir damper I've seen on a new gen Monster. Worth the coin?

That's a sweet looking unit. It also looks like it could be rotated so the adjuster faces outward.

I asked about that shock but was told it was not available for the new gens yet. Ohlins did say that they will offer a remote reservoir for the 737 model I got. Sure don't think I need it though the 650.00 shock works epic well.....

I wish.
Coz the M1100s stock Ohlins
DU-37
[edit] DU-737 [end edit] isnt fabulous.
Dont think that particular shock will ever see the light of day for New Gen. AFAIK it was a Rever Corsa special build... and RC went tits up long ago. I contacted Ohlins about it at the time and got nothin.....

Is the aftermarket shock available from Ohlins (DU-737) the exact same shock that came stock on the 1100s? DU-737 = DU-37?

if you research the ohlins shocks with length stroke, etc. I 'm pretty certain the sbk ohlins are the correct size.
finding the right with with the reservior is the issue.
you may have to have it revalved and maybe use the proper monster spring rate,
but likely could be worked.
and likely what happened with this RC one.
no way Ohlins built it from the ground up just for them. likely took measurements/rates/valving and matched it up with a product they have on another bike, maybe not even a Ducati.

Looks rides and feels totally different. Right down the tight way the spring is coiled it is no where close.

Yup. My bad missed out a 7. Stock M1100s is Ohlins DU-737 and its fitted with a truck spring.

DU-737 is different than the stock M696/M1100 Sachs, yup.
Dunno what the stock rear is on M796 or EVO.......

OK, so from what I gather the new gen bikes only have 1 option from Ohlins...the DU-737 (either pulled from an 1100S or direct from Ohlins). Thanks for that info
Now, will SBK or older Monster dampers work on new gens? Hell, even dampers made for other makes? I see a ton a good deals on eBay for these applications. I understand that they may need to be revalved and resprung, I'm more concerned if they will even fit in the first place. Anyone know?

Hey Storm, kick out the 638.00 and just buy the right one from the start. By the time you ship, re-spring, re-valve put the right ends on the shaft you won't save enough cash to make not getting the right shock the first time. I got mine from Moto Wheels and with their VIP discount the price was reasonable.
The difference is astounding.

So did I. The good news is that the shock will be upgradeable to a remote. You will be able to send it back to Ohlins when it comes out, if you decide you need it that badly. I had quite a few suspension folks tell me the 737 was more than adequate for spirited canyon riding. Ohlins is a bit behind the new gens. It may be months or it may be two years who knows. In the meantime you are denying yourself some serious pleasure!

OR, go with Penske and have them build a shock for you

Yes, I know there are custom options available if you have the bucks. Racetech can also make a custom tailored shock...

Sky,
Can't see a way they are going to rebuild this shock as a 3-way. And if they could..., it would be $1,800. Used to have one on my K-RS and it was the "bee's knees" I agree..., but is a 10% at most improvement. Worth $1,200 to you? And if it really IS that sensational, then you'd want to drop $4,000 on a matching fork (which I doubt they'll ever do). Just be happy.
Did you get your fork set back to stock? If so, how's that now?
Did 50 brisk miles today on my rig. For a bike in this price range I can't see doing more. However I DO see you have a hole in your pocket.
BTW, DU-737 WAS built for the new Monsters, not a re-tread. The rebound adjuster DOES affect the compression proportionally. The gent in NC who built mine two years ago filled me in. The DU-737 was newish then.
