Yesterday I took the screen and headlight cowel/fairing panel off (or whatever the correct term is).
Oh, I have an 08 S4RS. I think it looks shit hot without the screen on, but you definitely get a lot more
wind. Who would have thought that pissy little piece of plastic did so much? Although this is the first bike I
have had without a full fairing, so I have definitely learned how much that bit of plastic does when it's raining,
and to be honest, that was more than I thought too.
Being a monster forum, this topic has probably come up a million times but for my benefit, what do you all thinks
looks better, screen on or screen off?

Hi Brian, you must be a top bloke with a name like that  Spelt correctly too I see........ excellent ! As for the bug screen/front headlight fairing/plastic thingy bit , I always thought of it as sacrilegious to remove it, but alas, mine is now adorning the corner wall of my garage along with other bits that I swore i'd never remove. Yet to test it this end though as my Monster has been mothballed for a few months now. Comments around the traps say that there is minimal difference. Vaguely remember Matty (dirt bike boy) saying that he gets less buffeting with it removed. Brian W  |

I like the way screen compliments the look of my bike. I think the light coloured bike and the continuation of the "racing stripe" helps here.
I have seen plenty of pictures of monsters that look great without the screen on, especially with the addition of lowered headlights and smaller dash units. My personal opinion is that no screen looks best on darker coloured bikes.

I think the screen looks awful. Same with belly pans.

I took it off a week ago now and I have to say, I am agreeing with Suzy. I like it off. Not that it is much work to put it back on if I change my mind anyway. As for the difference it makes, I would have to say the wind force in your face is noticably increased without the screen on, especially when you are slightly exceeding the speed limit.

I took mine off as soon as I got it home, same as with the bit o' plastic over the pillion bit.
If I wanted wind protection I'd get a car.

I had it off on my old 620, but have left it on the S2R. They look 100x better with a tinted screen and the difference it makes in wind protection is enough for me to leave it there.  |

I took my bikini fairing off my M1100 the day I got it home. Sure there is a little buffeting to contend with but not that much difference really, that is until you get to about 180+k's then it's head-snapping-neck straining eff'ing ridiculous (track riding of course  ). |

Even at $2.00 I wouldn't call it head snapping.......Maybe years of playing prop\2nd row and head banging have had some benefits. Stronger neck or fewer brains either way it works.  |

The very first thing I did to my Monster the day I got it home from the dealer was unbolt the front fairing.
For me... A Monster doesn't have a fairing , but Hey that's just me.

I do like the "without" look but at this stage have kept mine on for protection of the clocks ,concealing wires and as I do more higher speed long distance touring now than cafe crawling ( or parked in the garage like Brian's show pony  ) any wind protection is appreciated . I did however drop my headlight and clocks so the screen went along for the ride , looks a bit better and now the wind is directed at my body rather than at my face . And the screen support brackets made a big difference reducing the wobble at speed. |
